Hey, my old desktop is going to die any minute now so I did some research and came up with these parts.

What I need is a desktop to last me another few years, not going to oc or upgrade anything. Just going to use it as it is. I don't play games now (gfx card died about a year ago) but once I get my new desktop, I'll definitely find something to play. :s13:

MSI H270m bazooka/Asrock H270m Pro 4 + i5 7500
Kingston 16gb ddr4 2133mhz (8gbx2)
Gigabyte GTX 1060 6gb windforce oc
Samsung Evo 850 500gb (maybe add in 1TB 7200 rpm hdd from wd as well)
Asus dvd drive
Corsair SF450W 80+ gold
Phanteks p400s casing

All parts taken from PC themes.

Few questions:

1) Is my motherboard a good choice?

2) The gfx card is the cheapest gtx 1060 6gb out there, I assume other than looks, there will be minimal difference from other brands right?

3) Psu wattage high enough? Or should I go for 500w?

Would gladly appreciate any inputs regarding this build. I only do this once every few years so I would definitely need some insight from all the pros here, thanks! :D

The motherboard just get the cheapeat one since you're not using any special ports or features. H110 should be good enough.

Gpu..maybe you can checkout zotac, it should be cheaper with longer warranty.

For psu..why not get a normal size one since your casing is big? :s13:

I read that 1xx series doesn't support kabylake unless it's upgraded.

Zotac 1060 6gb amp runs quite hot leh from the reviews I read. Actually the cheapest is MSI, not Gigabyte, made a mistake there

PSU can get Corsair TX550W Gold.

Can try Ryzen 1600 instead of i5-7500. The 6 cores instead of 4 is a big plus.

1) Mobo can get H110/B250 if u getting i5-7500 (ASUS/Asrock pretty cheap) (H110 need to flash the BIOS to use with current gen CPU)

2) Differences is temperature (not much), aesthetics, size of the card.

Anyway, I don't know if your dvd drive is Internal/External, just note P400S no 5.25 Bay to put internal dvd drive

Yeah..maybe you can ask the shopkeeper whether the h110 works on kabylake if they're not dodgy :s13:. Else you can get the b250.

I've not used the 1060 before but the zotac amp 1060 comes with 2copper heatpipe while the gigabyte you've selected has only 1. So i doubt it will run as hot as you would expect.

ohh i've never considered amd before since i remembered intel being wayy ahead of amd last time? it seems like 1600 > 7500 at this time, would have to read up on which mobo to get for 1600.

There are 4 models for zotac 1060.

1060 3gb mini. This is with normal heatsink.
1060 6gb mini.
1060 3gb amp. This is with heatpipe
1060 6gb amp.

I see your gpu budget is about 400+.
Why not wait for qoo10 coupon? gtx1070 cost $500 after $100 cart coupon discount.

because im not really fussy when it comes to games. i think the 1060 6gb will serve me very well for the next few years.

actually wanted the 3gb? then i thought might as well get the 6gb and be set.

i've decided to switch to ryzen 1600 + gigabyte ab350 gaming 3, zotac 1060 6gb amp.

but i couldn't find any reviews for corsair tx550, only got tx550m reviews.

searched for an alternative and chanced upon evga g3 550w 80+ gold

so now my build would be

gigabyte ab350 gaming 3 + ryzen 1600
zotac 1060 6gb amp
samsung evo 850 500gb
kingston 2x8gb 2400mhz
evga g3 550w 80+ gold
phanteks p400/p400s

better?

Generally it looks fine.
If you're open to buying online then maybe you can state the individual part pricing you're looking at so we can further advise savings/part upgrade at the same price range.
