Need advice on rMBP

Hi, I was planning to purchase the mid-config 13" retina MBP. However, I'm having a dilemma as I am undecided on whether I should upgrade the cpu from 2.4ghz to 2.6ghz for just 120sgd, since I am planning to use this laptop for more than 3 years.

Is there a substantial difference between 2.4ghz to 2.6ghz? And should I upgrade it now if I have the money to spare since i'm planning to use it for the long term? Or should I just forget about it?

Its 10-20% increase in performance. Not sure if that is worth $120. #applescam

I would rather you spend the extra $$ + top-up to max out the RAM since it is no longer user upgradable or even use it for Applecare instead, since you wanna keep it for more than 3 years.

The differences between the 2 CPU speed wouldn't make much of a diff when running on Mac OS if you know what I meant...

I agree with you. Upgrading the ram from 4gb to 8gb is a better choice.

the ram for mid-config is already 8gb. yea, i'm getting educational pricing

rMBP are rated at 1/10 "self repairable" from iFixit
almost everything is soldered/glued on.
Mavericks handle RAM efficiently
SSD currently is not meant to hold large DATA files due to it's price. who wouldnt want 1TB of SSD?

the MBAs first came with 64gb only....now base models are 128gb....only a matter of time before 1tb goes mainstream

to sum up, upgrade whatever you have money to spend on. ultimately, you would still be somehow crippled by the lack of dedicated gfx

The difference in clock speed is negligible in my opinion and not worth the extra cash since the L3 cache is the same for 2.4Ghz and 2.6Ghz at 3MB, compared to the i7 2.8Ghz at 4 MB. Your money will be better spent on Apple Care in my opinion as you've said you'll be using for more than 3 years. I have the mid-config late 2013 MBPr with Apple Care if it matters.
