Hello Guys,

Need your expert's advice. Currently I'm using X720BE (2.8Ghz) with Antec Truepower 550W, 5 HDDs (including one SSD), 23" Dell (1920x1080) and a Powercolor 4850.

So far the following games I played

1) Bf3- very laggy -very poor game experience with my GPU
2) starcraft 2- Very laggy when hordes of armies fighting. I suppose is more of a CPU intensive than a GPU game? Pls advise..
3) Black Ops..Ok no lag or whatever.. so far so good.

I have shortlisted two GPUs

1) Sapphire 7870
2) Power color 7870 MYST

or should I wait for 7790???

Btw, one big fan is better than dual fan? All my previous GPUs die cos of the fans stopped spinning. But for this Powercolor, it has a huge single fan which is awesome.. so far those which died on me are those with enclosed boxed up. This 4840's fan is a big fin fans so not a big issue to clean.

So I need your advice on which fan + GPU is better? Need more opinons before buying.. thanks :D

Err really depends on your budget first.

Next, is high power consumption and heat if a concern?

Thanks for your reply. Budget is about 300+/-.. I'm not sure whether 7850 is a good opinion as well.. Btw, why heat is a concern? I understand the high power consumption for the 78XX series..

Startcarft2 is cpu intensive & mildly gpu intensive. Your 720BE is obviously underpowered when hordes of units are fighting.

You should upgrade your cpu first instead of gpu. For that matter, a faster i3 should be enough.

While I am not familiar with BF3 & Blacks Ops which are first person shooters. I will bet it's your cpu that's bottlenecking the games.

I think your processor is also starting to bottleneck on your gaming performance.

GPU wise, it depends on your budget and how often you game. The HD 7870 PCS+ Myst edition has got the best value currently, but it does consume more power than a normal HD 7870. This is a none issue for me since I hardly game more than a hour or 2 each day, so this does not have an impact on my power bill. ;)

Thanks guys for all the replies. Actually I havent really played SC2 for long time... So upgrading now to a 7850 or 7870 is a priority.. I usually play FPS more...Now really tie between Sapphire or Powercolor, either 7850 or 7870... btw my PSU can support both 7870/50?
