Need advice on up pes matter

Firstly, my current pes status is B2L3. I requested to up pes during my modified BMT, went to see the MO and got an appointment to see medical specialist.

However, the appointment was scheduled at a date after I passed out from my BMT and so I was posted to a unit first. I informed the unit of my desire to up pes and recourse BMT and my impending medical appointment.

The specialist doctor agreed to recommend an upgrade to my pes status and gave me a memo letter to pass to my camp MO.

Before I had time to see my camp MO however, I had a talk with my OC about my up pes and recourse matter. He took the memo letter and said that the unit will arranged a medical board review for me to officially up my pes, however it may take months.

My concern here is that the letter that my OC took is my only copy of the letter as i didnt have time to make a photocopy. Without seeing the MO, is my OC really able to arrange an appointment for medical board review? I am feeling abit insecure as I thought the MO would be the one making the appointment for you and I fear that my OC may be intentionally holding back on my up pes. and why would he need the letter?

Would appreciate if anybody could advise me on this matter and what should I do? I know I could wait it out and see what happens but I really want to be sure. I waited quite long for this and I know it wont be resolved anytime soon. That is why I hope to get my pes up as soon as possible.

and before anyone asked:

Why do I want to up pes?
I wanna try for command school which my current pes has no chance for and my medical condition does not limit or excuse me from any activity. I made the decision after thinking it through for sometime and am determined to see it through so I hope you guys refrain my discouraging me by posting "why up pes? waste of time".

Nevertheless, Thanks for your time and advice.

You need to see the MO to even have a chance to be boarded. Why don't you go ask the memo back from your OC? We are not your OC's brain, we can't know what he thinks.

You know since you have passed out from BMT, I think you may not be able to recourse. And since the job you are doing now can be done by a PES B2, it means it can be done by a PES A or B1, and since your unit have a big say in your life, there's a very high possibility that they may just elect to keep you even though you may have upgraded your PES. In addition, the whole process takes quite sometime and by the time you have upgraded your PES, your time life in NS maybe too short for SAF to even consider selecting you for command school even if you get the chance to recourse. You maybe just end up doing combat fit BMT and get posted back to your current unit.

Also have you thought about the WHAT IF situation where you end up upgrading your PES and not selected for command school?

One more thing, it is in YOUR own opinion that you think you are fine for combat fit, but it is in THEIR opinion that you are not fit combat. There's a reason why they give u PES B2 right...

Think hard, think again.

Thanks for your response.

I actually tried to get the letter back from my OC, but he just told me that they will arrange for the medical board review, the letter is with him and I just have to wait now. Now, I am uncertain how much truth in that which is why I am clarifying here. can my OC schedule me for a review?

Regarding the BMT recourse, the letter specifically state a recommendation for a trial of BMT, my OC has also told me he will push me for a recourse, again I donno how much truth is in it.

Yes, I am aware of the time shortage. If the process takes too long, I am prepared to extend my service.

I would rather try and fail than not given the opportunity to, I believe i will regret it for a lifetime if I don't push for a chance now.

I know that it is my opinion, but I have been assessed by a respectable ex-regular doctor specialist regarding my combat fitness and he has certified it in the memo and recommended an upgrade. I believe that holds some weight, no?

Again, thanks for your response.

Well, scheduling a review is not that hard anyway, you yourself also can schedule one yourself. It actually depends on the guidelines of your unit. Whether it is you go schedule yourself, or they schedule for you. Since your OC say he will schedule for your, he can simply order one of his ka kias to go call up the medical centre to book an appointment for you lor, that's about it. It shouldn't take more than 5 minutes anyway if they are "efficient".

Conspiracy theory: there must be a reason why your OC is holding onto your MEMO and doesn't want to give it back to you. And if he's really gonna schedule for you an appointment, he can do so very quickly. Why take so long? It's possible that he wants to keep dragging on such that what I mentioned previously becomes true and he got more than enough reasons to keep you cause there's no point for you to recourse even if you up PES.

BTW you did not mentioned how long it has been since you hand your memo to your OC.

A specialist expertise is in the field of medicine and he will definitely be able to recommend whether one is fit and capable of being in a combat fit vocation. BUT whether you get a recourse of BMT or not is a very organisation kind of needs. It's all about manpower requirement. What's the point of putting you through recourse and end up you being returned to the same place? It's not only a waste of time but also resources, in the sense IF you go for recourse, during that 9 weeks period, your current unit is short of someone, then how? So the point is why would they want to recourse you if there's no point? In my opinion, I don't believe your specialist would have a say on whether you should recourse, but he would have a say on whether you are medically fit for recourse. With regards to your OC's promise, refer to the conspiracy theory above.

Why don't you go sign on?

It probably does, but refer to what I mentioned above about the manpower requirements and needs.

The 2nd para is exactly what i fear.

I don't see a future in signing on. What I want is to try my fullest and achieve something of value during my time serving, if i have to extend by a few months, then its fine. But not for life.

I only handed the memo to him this week. The medical appointment and memo was issued to me just this tues.
What would you say is my best course of action now?
Shld i just wait it out and see how it goes?

Thx

extension of service is not as simple as it sounds.

during the extended period, you will be drawing regular pay instead of nsf pay so SAF might reject your application because it is just not worth their money.

also, to go from BMT to 3SG you need 9 months. but even then you are still technically not a full fledged commander. after getting your 3SG and posted to unit, you still need to undergo some on job training and perhaps some other minor courses due to the specific requirements of the unit.

you think SAF will send you for command school when your POP date is your ORD date...

edit: i am not against you trying to up PES and aim for command school, just saying that there is a significant possibility that you will just up PES and still be at square 1.

there is also the possibility that the MAPAS test indicates that you are not suited to be a commander...

i can tell u, even if u up pes, u may not go for bmt recourse, u may not go for command sch

you completed bmt in their records, u dun really need to recourse pes a/b bmt watever u went thru in B2 and a/b1 is abt the same..

u usually recourse becos u failed to complete bmt not bcos u up pes (unless u up pes from E to A B or C then u have to go tekong)

its just 2 years.. thinking of extension is :s22: to extend, you need strong justification from ur commanders...
