Lol you would do just as well for gaming with a z97/h97 chipset, an i5-4460 will do fine

Price drop for GTX980 is imminent so look out for it.

And is there a need for so much ram lol

Waste money on CPU, motherboard and RAM, and spend too frugal on graphics card and power supply. Honestly speaking, this looked much like the kind of offering branded PC manufacturers would offer just as mentioned by other forumers up there.

Why not give us a budget and any specific needs for us to configure something great for you?

hi guys

Thank you very much for the input. I realise you guys here are really up there when comes to this type of things.

Here goes my needs:

1) I need a CPU at least 64gb ram for heavy radar image processing. I have a 32gb computer at my workplace and it managed to run just fine. Thought it might be good to get one step higher. Will be bringing work home to process overnight.

2) I also want to be able to play high end PC games, looking especially at racing games.

3) Storage wise I would like to have at least 2TB.

4) Price wise I'm looking about ~ $2k for a long term investment.

5) Need to be upgradeable

6) Need cooling system

Things like graphics card, processor etc, i really have no idea what are the available choices or which ones are worth buying. Need help from you guys on that one. Price wise please let me know if my demands are exceeding my budget. Not too sure what the specs vs cost details are.

Can also direct me to which shop / freelancer to build the desktop?

Thanks all in advance! Appreciate your help.

You do realize that 64gb of ddr4 ram and a x99 cpu+mobo alone already exceeds your budget right?

You need to reevaluate which is more important for you or up your budget to around 3k if your dead set on 64gb of ram and x99

Alternatives:
x79 ddr3 64gb(Still not enough for a decent gpu)
Go for 32gb(In this case, it becomes pointless to go for lga 2011)

can whack second hand X79 from forum and DDR3 on amazon dipping like crazy

If your focus is on racing game, GPU dont need sibei powerful bah... A 970 can hit like 3 digit frame rates, maybe can use something less intense.

2K$ is for advanced gaming rig

If you want a workstation powerhouse, the basic X99 mobo from ASUS + 5820K is already about $950 (not full rig price) from tradepac. 64GB DDR4 RAM from Newegg is about $850ish before CGW and related shipping charges.

That's definitely 2k$ gone.

To put it into perspective:

CPU: ASUS X99-A USB3.1 @ $897+5X, approx $950 from tradepac
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 64GB (8x8GB) 2400MHz DDR4 @ $850 before shipping
GPU: Palit Super JetStream GTX980 @ $700 after lazada promo
CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i GTX @ $165
SSD: Samsung EVO 850 250GB @ $175
HDD: WD Red 2TB @ $130
PSU: Corsair AX760 @ $235
Casing: Your choice, $150-$200
OS: Windows 8.1 OEM @ $130

That's already $3535. Add in shipping, probably a 7% GST charge on your RAM, maybe that's a $3.7k already.

Work station is work oriented

Gaming setup is focus on Gaming only, that means priority will be a good gpu within ur price range
