Need advise on new computer for work

Im helping my dad to build a new computer for his work. His uses it mainly for Words and Outlook. Looking at pictures and stuff but not editing.

Currently this is roughly what i researched:

ASUS H87I - Plus i5 4440 ~ $406
G. skill Ripjaw 8gb 1600 ~ $115
Crucial M500 120gb ~ $115 (240gb if budget allows)
InWin BP 655 + 300w PSU ~ ??
Window 8 OEM ~$138
Microsoft Office Hm & Biz ~$299

Total : $1073 + ?? (Casing and PSU)

Is there a need for me to use i5 for his usage or can jus downgrade to i3 or maybe even to G3430?? Cos i want a reasonably fast computer as it will be difficult to work wif a laggy computer.

I don really know wads the difference between mobos even aft i search online, as such the mobo i chose is from one of the TS here who built a rig for his dad for basic usage. Is such a mobo required for his usage??

RAM im guessing 8 is better than 4 thus i put in 8 for him.

I chose to include SSD as i benefited from it a lot. As such im assuming he will as well. But is it really necessary for him? As in will SSD improve the speed of Office or im jus better off saving the money wif a HDD. He has many external HDD as such storage is not an issue.

Casing and PSU. Likewise i cant decide on a casing, but my dad has specifically told me he wans a small casing. I saw other small casings like CM 110 ITX and Jonsbo ITX casing, but those are square. Then i saw the same TS who bought InWin as well and this is a case that suit my dad's need. Is there any other casing ard the same at the InWin?

Phew, its a long post and i appreciate whoever reads all of them, and at the same time help me by giving me a few inputs on where i can change to reduce the total dmg to ard 700-800.

Go Windows 7 Home premium 64-bit enough.
Kingston ValueRAM 2x4GB is enough. G.Skill is for more intense activities.

no need to DIY at all
just hunt around for a used ibm t410 leptop, bargain until around $300 is good enough

additional boost: take out the existing hdd, sell it for roughly 30 bucks, buy a used 120gb ssd for around 80 bucks and reinstall OS.

Jian19 I checked out the mobo, liked the price! but jus wondering is there a major difference between i3-4130 and i5-4440. Cos the thing i don understand is y does the i3 have a higher clock speed than the i5.

and also thx for reminding me about buying MS Office from poly..totally forgotten bout tt.

DeenzX, the Kingston ValueRam has the 1333 and 1600, i searched and they say there is not much of a diff. so i shld jus get the 1600 4gb x 2 @ $96 instead of the 1333 4gb x 2 @ $104 right? and Jian19 recommended Crucial 8gb@ $90. However i checked ard and they said that 2 x 4gb is better than 1 x 8gb. So im in a dilemma here.

thx for ur kind offer, really appreciated it!! but i have built 1 for myself previously, and would like to do it again so as to refresh myself in case i forget how to fix.

dawnknight, i don wanna get a 2nd hand laptop for my dad, im afraid of issue popping out later. thx for the advice though

and also the computer will be able to run on a 24 in monitor at 1920 x 1080 right?

Yes, 2x4GB is better than a single 8GB stick because 2x4 is dual channel.. So they split the work and do it together.. 8GB take in all the work and do it alone.. so it is slower.. Spend a few bucks more.. It is worth it..

For rams,in the event that 1 stick fail,at least u got 1 more as backup and ur com still can run. But if u only gt 1 stick and if it fails, u gg le. Cant turn on com till u put in a new stick.

Well i5 is quad core and i3 is dual core, performance wise for ur usage the i3 is more then enough. As for ram it's up to u, like wad others point out 2 ram stick if 1 fail at least still have 1 can use first. U can try DIY ur own since u have experience in doing it. And for the wireless thing just reuse ur USB dongle, install its drivers will do

Cos the thing i don understand is y does the i3 have a higher clock speed than the i5.

Higher clock speed =/= instant better performance. There are other factors such as single core performance, multi-core performance, architectural tweaks, etc.

That's why you should never compare clock speed for clock speed. Unless it's within a range where every other variable is the same, like a 4570 vs 4670
