I would advice not to buy China SSD like this unlike the one Zhitai E7.
Zhitai E7 uses YMTC NAND which is also found in SSD like Lexar.
Should OK to use.

But Gen 4 SSD key issue will be heat make sure the SSD is not running hot.
Especially if your motherboard has no M.2 SSD shield to keep it cool.
As SSD prices is at all time high, options are very limited especially for budget.

Only options are either Lexar or China SSD like this.
I don't have much knowledge or experience with China SSD.
But those from Aliexpress usually best avoid as high failure rate.

Take for M.2 shield is best to get this type than those zip tie onto the SSD.
This type is a proper enclosure so the SSD will be secured.

I would advice not to buy China SSD like this unlike the one Zhitai E7.
Zhitai E7 uses YMTC controller which is also found in SSD like Lexar.
Should OK to use.
Firstly, YMTC do not make controllers. Ever. In fact, this ssd uses the same controller as the other china ssd: Maxio MAP1602. YMTC you're taking about is the flash manufacturer similar to micron, Samsung and sk hynix.

The issue with these SSDs is mainly they don't(dare) advertise what parts they use because it affects their BoM and to keep prices low, they mix and match parts. All they use is "3D" technology which is essentially useless information in 2026 as most already moved on from "2D" plannar technologies.

It doesn't tell you how many layers they use(which indicates generation), the quality of the flash(bit density for example)etc. Heck, the flash might be different from unit A and unit B with 1 having lower quality flash and the other with higher quality ones.

Many 3rd party SSD brand does this which is essentially almost all non-nand manufacturers. They don't want to get hit by scandals after all(orion's reputation is down the drain after blatant false advertising for example). The only thing which they might advertise is if they are using TLC like lexar nm790 which explicitly markets themselves as that.

Aside from that, respectable brands in china are zhitai(YMTC's consumer brand similar to micron's crucial) and biwin(OEM for Acer and HP SSDs). Fanxiang is spotty and I won't call them the best but at least they are not a scam so it's something.

Thanks for sharing, I have very little knowledge about all these China SSD.
Issue like most will be worried will be the TBW/Lifespan/Endurance.
How long can it last before it died?

I did have experience with SSD especially those from Aliexpress but sadly
those die very fast.

I agree. Aside from the 2 I mentioned biwin and zhitai, the others are a huge question mark precisely because they don't reveal what specs are used for the flash.

Another important thing is firmware which isn't talked about much. Because this is where the algorithm of where the magic happens(wear-leveling, garbage collection, and SLC cache) and most don't share that either unless you purchased the drive and test it out yourself. Add on the fact that they mainly target their own domestic market means most reviews never leave their market making research even more annoying.

However, as long as they are not a scam, they are perfectly serviceable as a non-OS drive like a data drive. Even QLC drives is fine for it assuming you keep perishable data on those drives like game files for example. Don't keep data you deem important on there unless there's backups.

This is one rock solid recommendation. Thanks @86technie 👍👍👍

Well why is this rock solid recommendation. I bought it from SLS Shop back then.. Its dirt cheap (now increase to SGD$10) but still it's a performer. I have tested not only Gen 4 but Gen 5 M.2s (Biwin X570 Pro, WD SN8100 and Corsair MP700 XT Pro) all able to tank with low temp.

Just happened that I am currently testing new agesa for X870 and B850m boards

Thermalright m.2 Heatsink looks sexy 🤭

Ok may not be CrystalDiskMark or ATTO benchmark but still impressive.

BTW it's normal for m.2 to run above 61°C and below 73°C. they are engineered to operate comfortably up to 70°C to 75°C, with thermal throttling kicking in around 75°C to 80°C to prevent damages.

Forget to mentioned, for M.2 SSDs, below are based from the past before prices go insanely expensive.
I've done heavy compilation and massive file transfers. All are reliable but I personally loves Firecuda 520. Yes! I compromised performance over durability.
  • Seagate Firecuda 520 / 530 (non R version)
  • Western Digital SN850
  • Kioxia Exeria Plus G3
  • Acer Predator GM7
Gen 5 m.2s
Tested most 2TB Curcial T705, Curical T710, WD SN8100, Samsung 9100 Pro, Biwin X570 Pro and Corsair MP700 XT Pro. To be honest, PCI-E gen 4 m.2s are more than capable. I weight these 3 factors :-
  • Performance (For gamers not really. For work yes it does)
  • Heat (Need good m.2 heatsink)
  • Price (Rediculous pricings at the moment)
It's not worth getting unless provided FOC 🤭

Depend on usage if you are constantly playing online games like Dota 2, Valorant.
The SSD wear out very fast.
??? What? No? Absolutely not true. The wear and tear are from constant writes and rewriting of data on flash memory which gaming does minimum of.

If you're telling me something like a huge constantly updating database, a video editing scratch drive or even OS drive(this is quite debatable in terms of wear and tear), then sure. But definitely not for games where the writes are really minimal and where reads are much more important.

This is why I recommended to use these cheap china drives as a data only storage where the main use case is to store perishable data including games because losing those games are not a big deal as u can simply just download them again assuming they have cloud saves
