Need advise: Unable to initialize hard drive.

Hi everyone,

I am sorry to post this on here, but I run out of all the troubleshooting methods that i can find. I have even RMA'ed a new drive. I am completely puzzled and perplexed, not knowing what to do

To cut the chase, I bought a 3TB Seagate BarraCuda (3.5 Inch SATA 6Gb/s 5400 RPM 256MB ; intending to use as an external hard disk. I connected the HD to my computer with a SATA to USB adapter with a 12V output power supply. Under Disk Management, the HD is stated as uninitialized, I try to initiate it , but got a "Incorrect Function" error. I downloaded AOMEI and rebuild the MBR and try to initiate again, but got the same error. In total, I have try to initialize the HD with three different computers.

Please kindly share what you have went wrong. Thank you so much for your time!

I will like to add that i am able to wipe the HD, that is the only function that is working for me.

First you to have ensure it is GPT partition, MBR partition have limit up to 2TB only.
Than format if still cannot, see whether you have any desktop and try again

using internal as external sometimes doesnt work. Happens to me too.

Try this. Go to run and type Diskpart.

Inside Diskpart type List disk. Then type Select disk X. X will be your problem hdd. Then type Attributes disk clear readonly. If cleared successfully then type Online disk. Then type Convert to see which one you want, MBR or GPT.

U try connecting to your pc sata port and PSU.
initialize and format from there.
After formatted den u removed it and use as external try.
I got this issue before and using this method…
