i'm currently planning to take train from taipei to ruifang and back on the same day

when i tried to google for the train number (so that i can book online)
i found that the return trip states as follows:

depart at 20/12/17 7:00 PM
1 h 6 min 7:10 PM - 8:16 PM
7:10 PM from Ruifang Train Station NT$49.00
7:10 PM Ruifang Train Station
Fuxing / Shuttle 4209 towards to Taoyuan
8:16 PM Taipei Station

My qns is, Fuxing / Shuttle 4209 is a train?? or is it a bus?
cos i see train should be the tze chiang express, chu kuang express or Fu Hisang Express.

From the Railway site i dun see 4209 appearing anywhere too :s22:

Thanks!!

nope. its free seating. Not very hard to find seats usually.
Other alternative is to buy the 6.40pm tze chiang online.

Else, you can alight at Badu station and try to take local trains (those commencing from Keelung). This will be emptier as Badu is the 3rd station from Keelung terminus.

3rd alternative is to take the public bus 1062 back to taipei main station.

The local trains take forever to reach taipei and frequently stop to let more expensive express trans overtake

can a local train be booked online? :s11:

worry no seats

Your worry is correct.
Because this period is when everyone wants to head back to taipei.
So my advise: book a train seat or budget conscious one, go by bus.
Or head to keelung and enjoy the port view n night market.
Then take the train back.
Keelung is a starting point for many trains, so never a problem to have a seat.

Most of the time no need to reserve tickets online unless it is popular routes like taipei to hualien. There are many trains between jiufen, ruifang and taipei. Just buy the tickets on the spot at the station. If you want a seat, just inform the counter.

Yes, there are many trains between ruifang and taipei.
But when travelling with elderly and young children, a seat will always be preferred.
Remember it is obligatory to give up one seat.
So if you have one of the two above, i highly recommend you to make a reservation for train seats.

definitely having a seat for the 30min or so ride is recommended. reservations can be made at the train station. it is only slightly more expensive than non-reserve seats.
