Hi everyone,

I am thinking of buying a laptop at Comex. Just wondering whether I could get your inputs on which model is better.

Requirements:
- Mainly for work (thus need larger screen)
- Surfing internet, playing online games (eg. facebook)
- Portability is not really an issue as I wouldn't be carrying it around
- Budget not more than $1100.

Based on the Comex brochure, I have narrowed it down to:
1. Aspire E5-575G Notebook (559Z) - $849
- 15.6” FHD, Intel Core i5-6200U, 4GB RAM, 1TB HDD, GT940MX(2GB)

2. Aspire E5-575G Notebook (71AZ) - $1,098
- 15.6”FHD,lntel i7-6500U,8GBRAM, 1TBHDD,GTX950M(2GB)

3. ACER E Series E5-522G - $699
- AMD A6 Quad CORE, 15.6” HD, 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD, Windows 10

I hadn't considered other laptops that were within my budget as the screens the 3 above seem to be the ones with the largest screens. I am leaning towards S/N 3 as the others don't seem to add much more for the higher price.

If there are other laptops that you guys would like to recommend, please do let me know too.

Thank you.

Hello!

Do check out the brochures here

More will be updated as timer to the start of COMEX counts down to 0

For your budget and needs - there are quite a variety of offerings from both Lenovo and Asus as well. You may want to check both out!

One tip that I would often advise forumers would be to not get any freebies & ask for the best price. Will probably knock off a few 10s of $ here and there :)

Cheers

Hey everyone, many thanks for the advice. Would avoid Acer and and AMD processors. Would scan the Intrinion's link with these in mind.

Are there any other guidelines I should be aware of?

Thank you.

If you aren't going to be carrying it around, why not settle for a desktop computer instead? With a desktop, I'm pretty sure you can work within the $1100 budget.

Do be aware that the display is a TN panel rather than an IPS panel, and it isn't a FHD screen. FHD screens comes with 1920x1080p resolution. If you are comfortable with this, I think your choice is fine.

Seeing that you have obviously done some research into several models so far, and if you are still interested in recommendations, you can list down a couple of hardware specs that you are interested in having; eg. i5/i7, FHD 1920x1080p screens, SSDs, weight-class, price range (under $1,000 perhaps) etc. And maybe we can find something out there that is more value for money.

Also, you may be interested in some of the notebooks listed in the following thread. The seller states that these are Factory-Refreshed (not Refurbished) sets going at slightly better price than the market.

Saw you list and the specifications almost the same as I am browsing too.
Any review that maybe HP is not in the list?
I was looking at the 15-AC650TX or 14-AL033TX

@BirdbrainZ

Thanks for your comments. So when it says it is "LED-backlit Full HD", it doesn't mean it is a FHD screen? Seems quite misleading from the way they put it.

Would you mind helping me out with some laptop recommendations? My specifications are as follows:
1. Wide screen eg. 15.6"
2. Price < $1,100
3. Hardware specifications. I am not too fussy about it as I am just using it for work (Microsoft office), surfing the net and playing casual online games.

Thank you for your help.

@rockoil

Hey man, I didn't choose HP cause the screens were too small. I wanted a wide screen one that didn't cost more than $1,100. :)

1920x1080p resolution screens are considered Full HD, the 1366x768p you've mentioned isn't one.

Seems quite misleading from the way they put it.
It could have been an honest typo. Perhaps you can ask them if you see their representative in person.

My specifications are as follows:

1. Wide screen eg. 15.6"
2. Price < $1,100
3. Hardware specifications. I am not too fussy about it as I am just using it for work (Microsoft office), surfing the net and playing casual online games.
The following looks pretty decent for the specs and price, plus it even has a Kaby Lake 7th generation processor.

Lenovo Ideapad 510
15.6" FHD IPS LED display (1920x1080p)
7th Gen Intel Dual Core i7-7500U processor (up to 3.5GHz)
Win10 Home
8GB DDR4 Ram
1TB HDD
Nvidia Geforce GT940MX 2GB DDR3 dedicated graphics card
DVD-recordable drive
2.2KG
$1,099 (available at Comex 2016 according to the online brochure)

* Edit: Silly me. I'd just realised that you have already shortlisted this notebook in your earlier list.

Is Asus zenbook ux305ua worth the price? Dilemma between ux305ua and ux303ub. But ux303ub screen seems glossy man. Is it because of the touchscreen? :look:
