would post this in my main thread... but since a motherboard is super important (it's the hub connecting everything else) i thought this deserves its own thread :)

i've done a bit of reading about buying a motherboard, as well as asked about it in different threads.

from what i've gathered, no point going for the higher-end boards UNLESS you specifically need the features they offer over their more affordable counterparts. for me, i'm not looking to do any hardcore OC, or what. the primary purpose of my rig is to play games like crysis 3, bf3, etc. on weekends when i bookout (yes i'm a chao NSF :() and watch HD (1080p, 720p) movies and TV shows :s13:

i've decided to go for the i5 4670k, partly for future proofing (with regards to socket). k-series is unlocked multiplier, so i'm going for a z87 chipset.

since i don't need any special funky features (all i need are usb 3.0 ports, sata 3, pci-e 3, which even the most basic ones have), i've decided to go for the entry-level ones. but i want a brand that is reliable (i don't want to have to burn my precious weekends at the distro to fix my busted board :s13:) and rock solid.

my choices are:

gigabyte z87-d3hp ($239)
asus z87-k ($203)

which should i go for :o or are there any other recommendations you would like to put forth... or anything relevant to my quest?

thanks in advance! have a great day/night.

Reliable and rock solid. Sorry, these type of mobos doesn't exist. Every brands have their own fair share of problems. No mobo are problem free.

That say, you just need the basic. Then just go for 1) Warranty 2) Price. You shouldn't face much problems with either of the mobos you have choosen.

Asrock Z87 Extreme4. Has all the features u need, and pricing quite competitive. Any higher 'grade' than Extreme4, u will be looking at the durability of that board for overclocking instead of the features on the board itself.

hmm decided to go w gigabyte z87-d3hp... :) it's cheaper plus better performing than the extreme4 (ASRock Z87 Extreme4 Review - Benchmarks: Tomb Raider, Crysis 3, Metro Last Light)...

:( i get what you mean haha. anyway i've decided on the gigabyte z87-d3hp. value for money, good performance, and affordable.

Wau. Now Asus non-Z series mobo can also do over-clocking. U might wanna consider those for lower pricing
