Hi guys, my PC suddenly died all of the sudden and it won't power up when I press the power button.

I was browsing facebook while updating my Razer Synapse drivers and also downloading Path Of Exile on Steam when suddenly the monitor went blank and no signal and my PC turned off.. I tried to power it on by pressing the power button but the front fan's light lit up for like half a second and then powered off.

Here are the list of things I did:

  • Plug out power cable, hold power button for 10 seconds, plug in and power on
  • Opened the case and cleared some dust off from fans (except for the PSU fan)
  • Reseat the RAM in different slots
  • Tried with different power sockets
  • Checked if power cable is damaged

I have very little hardware knowledge so I'm not sure where is going wrong.. Does anyone know what is the issue?

EDIT: My PC was purchased on July 2015. I monitor my temperatures so should not be an issue of overheating (I think)

You can try (1) re-seat the GPU; and (2) check that the front panel power button to MB connector is secure.

Reseating ram doesnt work? You can try the standard diagnosing steps by removing hardware by hardware until the pc is able to start to determine which parts if faulty.

Took out my GPU and checked if front panel is secure. Still not powering up...

Not sure if you understand what I am saying. You first remove the GPU from the motherboard and connect the monitor to the onboard video and boot.

Please see the picture and the DVI connector is on the bottom left.

Yes, understand what you are saying. But the problem is it does not power up at all; Pressing the power button does nothing.

I don't have another power supply. Guess I'll have to head down to PC Themes to have my rig checked out.

Bring directly to distro instead of shop. As it has passed 7 days since purchased, shop will direct u to distro anyway.

Thanks, if I lost the receipt but still under warranty, is it possible to still get replacement? If not then I'd probably have to buy a new PSU..

If receipt is lost, then distro will based on manufacturing date stated in the psu, which means u will lose some months in warranty.

Google for paperclip psu test and see if u can do the same for ur psu. Note not to touch the paperclip as it is live, use pliers or so to remove it once done.

I think I better not... Cos I purchased my rig from PC Themes and they assembled everything up for me. I'd probably mess something up... Also I'm not entirely sure whether it is PSU problem either.

I guess it's best for me to bring my rig back to the shop and purchase a new power supply if it really is the PSU.

I took some time googling and reading guides. Apparently my issue seems more likely to be PSU or motherboard as mentioned here.

Also searched up the distributor for my PSU (Tech Dynamic). Will give them a call tmr...

I will try to troubleshoot it and see whether it is the PSU tmr oso...

Thanks guys for helping me out.. Been a long frustrating day for me. :s22:

Just fyi, if u ask PC themes to help u diagnose, they may charge you. Its not a FOC service coz you are asking them to take time off entertaining purchasing customers to entertain u.

Thanks for heads up... But I wasn't thinking about FOC service anyway. I know how business works; You pay people for their services. Don't think anyone would say no to money.

There are ppl who think that they are entitled to FOC service from shop when they had purchased the system years from them years ago.

Glad you aint one of them.

You can also approach Nigel's shop at #02-32, PC Care & Solution.
