Need help DIY rig for video editing

Hi all, can help me build a desktop mainly for video/photo editing purpose and surfing net? No need for games.

Main Usage: Video/photo editing, surfing net, youtube. No games.
Budget: $1,000

Current Rig (6yrs)

1. Intel i5 2500 3.3ghz quad core processor
2. MSI P67A motherboard
3. 16gb kingston ram
4. MSI R5850 1GB Twin Frozr II Graphics Card
5. Fujitsu SSD
6. Seasonic 650W PSU
7. Microsoft windows 7

I can reuse my SSD as additional, monitor/KB/mouse ect...

If possible, up your budget a bit more and get AMD Ryzen 5 1600 + Asus Prime B350M-A 6 cores 12 thread bundle. Otherwise, downgrade to GTX 1050 2GB.

Since you do not game, GPU is not required. Integrated is able to push enough pixel for video/photo editing.

Took i7-7700 over the i5 because of Hyperthreading and better turbo speeds for heavy work loads. Also, choose a better chipset, B250M for better stability . Heavy workloads such as exporting videos/photos will stress the VRM on the motherboard, which is not robust on H110 boards. B250 is made for business use thus are much thoughter.

A good alternative also. I chosen gpu for much faster rendering of the finished product, as long as the software ts uses can utilize gpu processing power.

My suggestions for this build uses AMD Ryzen R5 as it has more cores and threads than Intel i5 or i7 which makes it more suitable for video and photo editing.

You can reuse your SSD if it's the same capacity as what I suggested or to lower the cost of the entire build.

I forgot that my computer need to be internet enabled. So I need to get a network adapter card right? I am currently connecting using direct Ethernet cable.

You can use direct ethernet cable for internet then don't need the usb network adapter. If you want use wireless then got to get the wireless usb or pci e network adapter

My current PCIe network adapter have the setting "1.0 Gbps Full Duplex" for Singtel fiber. If I don't get a network adapter, does the mobo have the same setting also?

For me, moving from a 4-core 4-thread i5-3570k back then to a 6-core 12-thread i7-5820k chip already cut my exporting times by half in Adobe Premiere Pro, havent factor in GPU acceleration and RAM usage yet. So i feel that R5-1600 is the best for TS unless TS willing to pay for for R7-1700.

Disclaimer: if TS video editing is not even heavy (e.g Windows Movie Maker style or very light Adobe Premiere Pro), then dont even need to upgrade and spend $1k. Current rig can do the job well enough.

Thanks for the insights. I am using Da Vinci Resolve and alternating other NLE software as well as occasional photo editing. I guess the 2 game changers here are CPU and GPU. If I have more budget, I would definitely get R7-1700 and GTX 1060.

Then prioitize CPU over GPU. Coz almost everything goes thru the CPU for rendering/exporting. The GPU does nothing more than help offload some rendering from the CPU, and that is if u actually use very specific effects like blurring, vignetting etc (google for the list of effects for the software u using). If i were u, i would get an R7-1700 with a cheapo but decent motherboard, then see if i got enough to get a GTX 1050 or RX550 or not. And certain software prefer certain GPU brands. I know that Adobe is okay with either Nvidia for CUDA acceleration or AMD for OpenCL acceleration, but other software would better with one of them. And also check for RAM usage for the software, coz some software like Adobe are RAM-hungry and will gobble up any RAM u have left, bottlenecking the export times instead.
