Hi all

I'm pretty new to all these.

Im intend to build a new PC
Not a gamer here, but pretty much into a lot of photoshopping and image editing.

I intend to use the PC as my entertainment kit too, meaning much movies and music.

Any recommendation for this set up?

Thanks in advance!

Do you have a budget in mind, and do you need monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers and OS?

Hi thanks

Budget around 1.3k to 1.8k?
Including OS only.
I can do without monitor and keyboard and stuff.

Will that be able to get me a good set up?

Yup pretty fine actually

Looking at what $face suggested, I think 32GB is a little overkill for photo editing lol

It is more like for video editing and extremely intense stuff lol... even my current 3D rendering rig on the right is just 16GB :s13:

What about sound card? Do you have any recommendation for that? Is creativeLabs the way to go?

no need for one, onboard is enough for most users

if you really want a soundcard, I would suggest to scrap the idea and use a USB DAC instead

What games are you looking at? AAA grade ones?

The following will be balanced with gaming:

CPU+MB: Intel Core i7-4790 + ASRock B85M Pro4 @ $478
RAM: Crucial DDR3-1600 CL11 8GB X2 @ $134
GPU: Zotac GTX 960 2GB Twin Fan OC @ $268* (Lazada Singapore)
Fan doesn't spin at low load low temps.
SSD: Samsung SSD 850 EVO 250GB X2 @ $265^ (Lazada Singapore)
HDD: HGST Deskstar NAS 3TB X2 @ $326^ (Lazada Singapore)
HDD: Western Digital Green 3TB @ $127
ODD: Samsung 24X CD/DVD Writer [OEM] @ $21
PSU: Seasonic S12G 450W [80 Plus Gold] @ $85
SATA power connector scarcity issue is resolved with 8 whopping of such connector for this model.
Top notch brand and quality with 5 years warranty.

CASE: Silverstone Precision PS08 @ $59
OS: Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit [OEM] @ $32" (G2A)

Total: $1795

Why not consider external DACs? What speaker system are you outputting audio to?

Hmm. not really a gamer, but sometimes i will pick up latest games and try them out for a awhile. Dont play them frequently though. Is an old 7.1 creative system. I have a soundcard for it. But not sure if I shld upgrade it.

If I down the budget to 1.5k. Is that recommended?
Sorry from troubling

A good one would be a O2+ODAC combo

You can get one at JDS Labs for 329USD (customised with rear mounted power jack, 1/4 inch front headphone jack and rear RCA ports) or from Epiphany Acoustics at 179.99GBP

You can actually reuse the soundcard, or you can use the onboard as it supports 7.1 sound system

Personally would just stick to 2.1 though, 7.1 is too space consuming IMO :s13:

I dont have much knowledge about all these.

But i wondering does manufacturer matters? I realised like for a model of a GPU, there are alot of different brands and price can differ quite a bit. does it matter?
