Hi guys
I want to build a basic home office desktop. It will be my first build and wanna seek some advice or recommendations. I know it might be cheaper buying a manufactured set but I also want to try it out first as i intend to build a gaming one soon and dont want to screw that up as it would be more expensive.

It will be used for ms office, video streaming, surfing net, and basic gaming (mainly flash games).

I am thinking between an i3 or dual core. (Would a dual core be sufficient?)
Would appreciate a recommendation for combination of mini ITX motherboard + processor. Preferably with wifi, or will a separate wifi be better?

Case: I like the design of Inwin BP655 with 300W PSU (where can i buy it in SG?)
RAM: 2 x 4gb RAM
Storage: 240GB SSD

Any particular brands to look for for each?
My budget is around 500, including a windows OS. Is it possible or should I change to HDD instead?

Thanks all for your help in advance.

sorry sadly nope. but is it alright for you to get a ext one?

mini pc is something like this:

http://uds.ak.o.brightcove.com/7345....mp4?pubId=734546229001&videoId=4084999313001

and there is usb slots for u to use ext dvdrw.

maybe u can check with him where can u get 1. : http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/hardware-clinic-knowledge-base-33/nuts-about-nuc-klub-5347419.html

Thanks for the advice, but i prefer one together w the pc to avoid all the wires outside.

Does that mean that wifi-included mini itx pc would not be possible with that budget? What would be the minimum cost? I have some room to increase the budget but would ultimately like it to be cheaper than buying a manufactured one.

well its not necessary to get wifi onboard just that i find that a small form factor will be good for your usage.

And if this is so, maybe u can still can get wifi adapter (those PCI-e card)

ASROCK H81M-HDS + G3258 @172
Kingston 1600Mhz 8GB @47
Zotac T500 240GB @ $73+3^
ASUS PCE-AC56 Dual-Band CARD @99
Microsoft Windows 8 Professional 64-bit Product Key [OEM] @ $30 (Reddit)
Upgrade for free to Windows 10 via free Windows 8.1 update. (u have to do it before 29 July 16)

Total: 424

All parts are taken for PCTheme except for SSD from lazada.
As for ur casing and PSU i really have no idea where to get :(
As for ur lan card i select the AC card(dunno is it slow or not)

All Lazada prices inclusive of delivery charge
*Price after Lazada App Maybank Wednesday / CITIBank Wild Weekend 10% off max $30 discount

oh what i reco u is a pci-e card, not usb adapter. beside that its the latest wifi AC card, so basically if u have any new routers that is AC can use this card to get stable connection( speed wise will depends on ur environment as well as ur hdb design and beside that your distance from the router to pc).

You are right, i like the design on this case too. :)
But i forgot to mention in my 1st post that i'd need a 5.25 external drive bay as well for a dvdrw drive. Would you have any cases to recommend? I pretty much like most of inwin's mini itx cases aesthetically!

Why not get an external one? Do you really use it often? Most people (including myself) already left it to die since years ago...

Well it was one of the first and only requirements from my mom as it's actually for her to use so i want to stick to that as far as possible. I'll give it some thought

An USB-based slim external DVD writer drive will cost about $30

If she die die wants ODD integrated inside PC, it will inflate the chassis size to double at 8-9 litres FYI.

Get a slim drive. Connect via USB. Stick it to the small casing.

Problem solved.
