Sorry need help on doing assignment. I have never done any business related modules and now need to do organisational behaviour assignment (its a pre-course assignment). Below is the question:

Below is the full question:

1. Assignment 1 (20%)
Assignment Objectives

1. Understand and synthesise a diverse range of theories, approaches and perspectives relating to self, management and professional development.

2. Critically analyse themselves utilising theoretical perspectives and demonstrating, through an appropriate level of reflexivity, an increased self-awareness and self-understanding

3. Adopt a consciously reflective, proactive and independent approach to their own personal and professional development across the programme of study

4. Be able to identify their continuing personal and professional development needs

To complete this assignment you are required to complete a report of 1,500 words, carrying out an individual but objective self-analysis to assess your relative strengths and weaknesses in terms of the skills and abilities required in your current (or future) role as a manager.

You will need to adopt an appropriate methodology and collect and present evidence from a range of sources. These should include personal observation and reflection*, diagnostic tools and frameworks and, importantly, feedback from other people in both your personal and professional contexts.
The process of gathering and analysing personal data should be supported by the application of models and frameworks of self-analysis. The content of your analysis should be critically evaluated against relevant concepts and theories of self and management development. Examples of models and theories that can be used to help carry out such an analysis would include, but not restricted to, the following:

SWOT analysis

Johari Window

Any appropriate models relating to management/leadership styles

Many of these self-analyses are available online for free. You may want to check out the following websites:

Johari Windows : Johari Window - take the test online

Psychometric Test : http://alison.com/courses/Psychometric-Tests/content

Watchword Personality Test : Watchword Jungian Personality Test

Finally, your assignment should culminate in an assessment of the implications of the module and of the self-analysis process for you and your future development as a competent manager. This may be presented in the form of a future personal development plan.

I need to ask about what should be the correct layout of the report: I am trying to do this

(introduction)
Talk about what is the essay about.
What is management and requirements of a manager
methods used to gather data

(body)
SWOT results and analysis of the results
Johari Windows results and analysis of the results
PEST results and analysis of the results
personal development plan

(conclusion)
similar to the introduction

What do you guys think?

sounds about correct to me. But I'd also conclude your report findings in the introduction. Then from there, lead on to how u reached to this conclusion. :s12::s12:

Not an expert though, since I haven't written something for the past few years.

Not a business student, but as bubblegumcartel had mentioned, the structure is alright, except some strengthening on the conclusion. A conclusion reiterating the introduction is as good as not writing it at all. You may want to discard the "tell them what you want to tell them; tell them; tell them what you told them about" strategy here. You should be summarising your results from your findings, like what bubblegumcartel had pointed out, and critically evaluating your results, and "from there, lead on to how u reached to this conclusion".

There bound to be shortcomings in the methods you are using and you can explain why these shortcomings should have little or no impact to your results, which, then, you can use the results collected rather confidently to assess your relative strengths and weaknesses in terms of the skills and abilities required in your current (or future) role as a manager. You can include the above when you introduce your methodology and can be useful in the analysis of your results, and in writing your conclusions.

"What is management and what are the requirements of a manager"
There are many definitions on management and none refer to exactly the same aspects. Similarly, the requirements of a manager differ from different "gurus" in the field. You can go through some of them very briefly and decide on which definitions you will be using as the criteria to measured against your results collected. You need not write every different definitions of management, or the different requirements of a manager. The main thing is to let the marker/readers know that you know the differences, and you know why you are choosing some of them as assessing criteria.

For the methods, you probably have to explain a little more on why certain aspects are considered as for example, strengths. An opportunity not seize today can turn into a threat in future. Do not assume that things remain static - one grows older which may or may not be a strength; one's skills set may become obsolete; and one's endowment may deplete. So be aware of how the time factor can affect your results.

My two cents.

Cheers!
