Obviously the cheaper option will be better. Plus if you keep the original ticket, if there is significant flight timing, you can probably get a full refund from there either. How about travel insurance? Or the person can postpone without name change and use the ticket later.

i don't work in airline industry,im not sure whether they really blacklist people for no-show

FYI, no show is very common in the airline industry. In fact, many of them will allow overbooking of like 10% or more because there will be no-shows and last minute changes/cancellations. This is why you get free upgrades etc, because your class of booking is overbooked and too little no-shows.

Normal carriers will ask for a no-show fee for the ticket to be changed after the no-show, budget carriers will simply eat up your entire fare as the "no-show fee". The airline is being paid for the seat, but not incurring costs for transporting you, plus they can even get another person on board for more revenue, they earn more this way.

the point about them allow over-booking doesn't mean they don't blacklist no-show passenger

The fact is that you are not sure they will even blacklist people. So please do try to scare people into thinking there is blacklists. In fact I've done it many times, not flying on ticketed segments and continue to fly on the same airline again and again.

sure the fact is that the airline which you don't board allow you go scoot-free doesn't mean TS one will do the same

anyway buying a new ticket is cheaper at the time TS posted,it may not even be the case now

lastly, you suggested claiming insurance, i don't know which coverage you're going to claim under, that original passenger is not even going to check-in
delay/postpone of flight not even going to affect that pax unless some touchwood happens

Still the same stand, that you are rumour-mongering. You have not substantiated your claim that TS will get blacklisted, just based on some unknown, baseless fear.

Not sure why you are picking an argument now, obviously the post is correct as of time of posting and based on whatever was given to me by TS. You are going to read newspapers today say XX share price is $YY today (which is correct at time of printing) then go sue the newspapers when the price is not the same a few days later?

lastly, you suggested claiming insurance, i don't know which coverage you're going to claim under, that original passenger is not even going to check-in

I merely asked if TS or the passenger bought travel insurance (for the original passenger who is not flying). This is a trip cancellation, if you can find someone to certify that the passenger is not fit for the trip, you can try to claim. Please learn the terms and conditions before you buy, otherwise you will just be wasting money buying travel insurance, if you don't even know what you can claim under.

Delay/re-schedule will fall under airline conditions of carriage. Learn to know your rights as an airline passenger. Although your ticket might be non-changeable and/or non-refundable, or with significant fees, if the delay / re-schedule happens, you can change for free and under certain circumstances, refund without penalty. Please see below excerpt from Jetstar conditions of carriage.

(c) If, after you pay for your Booking, we make a significant change to the scheduled departure time of your flight or the flight is cancelled (except where this is due to circumstances beyond our control) and:

this change means you are unable to use your Booking for its intended purpose, and

we or our Authorised Agents cannot book you on another flight which you are prepared to accept,

we will give you a fare refund. Unless provided for in a Convention or any applicable law, we will not be responsible for paying any costs or expenses you may incur as a result of the changed time or cancellation.

i see..your no-show no penalty applies for jetstar which is a budget airline

1)TS is looking for advise around, since he is doing that,it is unlikely he will immediate buy a new ticket/change name.
2)TS didn't state the passenger is not travelling due to medical condition/court summon,or put it explicitly,TS didn't state that passenger is unfit
3)that original passenger is not even checking in,does even jetstar allow no-show passenger to benefit from 'change for free' or 'refund without penalty'?

1) Again, your own assumption.
2) Neither did I say that.
3) Seriously, the delay / change of schedule has to occur before the flight right? Obviously this has to happen before passenger becomes a no-show. Flight schedule change or cancellation can occur weeks or months before the flight, which will then entitle the passenger to refund. Since check-in have not closed yet, passenger is not yet a no-show. Short delays would certainly not be entitled for the refund, but if check-in deadline is extended for long delays, passenger can certainly still have time to call in and still not yet a no-show. Odds might not be high, but still possible, and if new ticket is cheaper than name change, why do you ever want to eliminate that small chance and succumb to the paranoia of being blacklisted.

2)you assumed that passenger is unfit thus suggesting him/her to try claiming from insurance
3)do you know timetable for commercial are packed back to back? it is almost impossible for a flight to be rescheduled months/weeks before.
the more common delay are circumstances where aircraft condition is unfit for flying is unscheduled maintenance or when you encounter bizarre happenings in aircraft which appears on stomp/NewPaper. By this time, that passenger is not even in the flight
By suggesting TS to try their luck on rescheduling means that passenger insurance is being paid for nothing also, sounds penny wise pound foolish to me

Lol, everytime I ready your response, I laugh so much at the naivety.

2) Don't tell me you have never gotten an MC when you are really not going to die if you go to school or work. As I posted previously, "if you can someone to certify that you are unfit to fly" or travel.

I never assume anything, just based on what TS told me, it is you who assumed.

3) Why not? Been there done that. Booked a round trip when I only needed the one way because they are the same price or round trip was cheaper. Ticket explicitly states no ticket value after flying first leg. Return trip was rescheduled 2 hours later, allowing me to refund half the ticket price back.

If original flyer is willing (for this small chance of delay etc), go airport check in, get boarding pass, then go home. This way, he is not a no show. If happen to get bad delay, which you claim is common, then call in say want refund, or go back to airport say want refund (must check out from flight then refund etc). Just say you getting another carrier as need to get there within xxx timing. As long as plane yet to leave without him, he is not yet a no-show for boarding. If you are paranoid that he is going to get blacklisted, please show proof. Missing connections etc are rather common occurrence and if you thru check your bags, you are already checked in, whether you have the onward boarding pass or not. Thereby, missing the flight but already checked in.

My posts have all been based on whatever is provided by the TS, which as of the latest updated by TS, that buying a ticket is cheaper than name change, not on speculation and rumour-mongering like you.

I'm saying if the price is lower for new ticket, get the new ticket and try for this chance. You are missing the point that you get 0% chance of getting the original ticket money back by changing the existing ticket. Which is not penny-unwise since you are paying lesser already and you still get a chance of getting the original ticket money back, rather than pay more (again penny unwise) and trust some rumour on the internet that you will get blacklisted.

Anyway, if you are so paranoid, kindly call in to cancel the ticket for $0 refund, or maybe you will get back the taxes, like few hours before the flight if there is major foreseeable delay. The point is, to get the cheaper ticket if you can and not change name. Whatever you are speculating that ticket price has already increased or purchase later crap, is still pure speculation. Until TS confirm, it is still pure speculation.

TS saying that one passenger not flying, another one taking over to not waste the insurance. Travel insurance can change name one? Please enlighten (I'm not sure about this). BTW, travel insurance can be refunded for a small admin fee.

edited: By the way, you can post about speculation, rumours and fears all you want. My posts are based on personal experiences, black and white T&Cs with airline etc, let TS or whoever is reading to decide for themselves. I'll not be replying to your posts in this thread anymore, unless TS seeks more advice.
