Need Help In Choosing Parts! Please Help..

Greetings Gurus...

I am going to build my first desktop and i have actually zoomed in to a few parts already but currently is facing a tough decision between this two graphics card. I would appreciate if anyone on this forum can help me to decide on my purchase.

1) SAPPHIRE HD 7970 3GB GDDR5

2) GeForce GTX 760

Other parts that i will be using is:

1) Gigabyte G1 Sniper M5

2) Intel i7 4770K

3) Corsair Carbide Series 200R Compact ATX Case

4) Corsair CX Series Modular CX750M ATX Power Supply

5) Corsair Hydro Series H60 Liquid Cooler

6) Corsair Dominator Platinum 16GB DDR3 Memory Kit 1600 CL9

thanks for the input guru! 7970 was my first choice but i was caught in the tough spot because the green coloured logo of the gtx 760 matches the sniper m5 motherboard..

maybe i should forget about the colour matching and go ahead with the 7970.. or should i change to this msi z87 mother board?

which mother board is better in your opinion?

Personally i find the g5 sniper a bit hard to have a gaming aesthetics form. Z87 msi g65 would be a better choice if you looking for aesthetics. Or a board that can go well with other components or themes. Check out the hoot club. Some of us already got hooked onto a red mobo theme by msi g45 or g65 board.

Anyway to me msi is worth getting as of its price point value for money.

So far i rarely see anyone recommending giga board here. Dont know why also.

Get 7970, msi gaming mobo and Thermaltake water 2.0 extreme. Better than corsair 100i.

For ram, u can look at the new corsair vengeance ram for red black theme.

For psu I highly recommend seasonic platinum 660W. Very quiet and power efficient. 750W is too high for your build.

Umm.. Corsair Cabide 200r don't have side see-through panel right? Then why bother how it matches the mobo? You won't really get to see it..

And do you really need Sniper mobo?

If you want aesthetics, might be better to downgrade the mobo to a cheaper one and find a casing with side window panel.

If doing over-clocking and if u have the budget (seems like it), why not go for 1866Mhz RAM?

Anyway, I read reviews that a normal audio card can outperform the audio that is on the Sniper itself easily..

Lastly, I would prefer GTX 760..

Yup.. It doesn't come with a see through panel on the side.. I was probably trying to perfect the aesthetics so that see liao will shiok whenever i take out the side panel to do something..

I will take note of ram part that you have recommended but could you share with me on why you chose GTX 760? Price or because Nividia is more trusty? I'm totally new to all these so i hope you can enlighten me on this. What's kind of holding me back is that GTX 760 is 2GB while 7970 is 3GB.

For a start, I will have only 1 monitor but should be adding a 2nd monitor in the near future. Is a 2GB GDDR5 graphics card enough or a 3GB GDDR5 is more future proof?

GTX 760 should be able to handle 2 monitors @ 1080p max.. And being a relatively new card, it can last you for a number of years as well.. 2Gb is enough to last u before u decide to change gfx..

Not sure if you are intense gamer, but if u r, better get a GTX 770 for 2 monitors.. GTX 760 won't be able to support gaming well on 2 monitors...

Another reason why I recommend Nvidia because imo, Nvidia for gaming and AMD for photoshop/video rendering/editing.

Don't know how come I assume u gaming..

Seriously, maybe you can look at other cheaper gigabyte boards with wifi and save a couple of bucks there if you do not really need to use most of the features on Sniper..

Sorry but that is really rubbish. Since when nVidia is for gaming and AMD is for photoshop/video editing? More like the other way around, but AMD is improving on non-gaming tasks since more and more apps switch to OpenCL nowadays. In all, green or red, it all comes down to your preference, no brand has any big advantage over the other.

Also, GTX760 is cheaper but slower than HD7970; GTX770 is faster but more expensive. Those 3 hardly compete with each others.

I game at times but not exactly an intense gamer.. Looking to build a desktop which can handle most games so that when my friends ask me to play certain games, i won't be caught in a situation where i have to tell them that my desktop cannot that particular game.

I am attracted to sniper m5 is because i think the board quite stylo milo and with the gold plating on stuffs on the I/O increases the stylo milo factors.

I also won't run any games in 2 monitors mode because the 2nd monitor is basically there for me to say watch some movies while say light gaming or when i am watching a movie halfway, i can use the 2nd monitor to reply to some emails or do some facebook-ing.

Hmmm.. Interesting.. So if you were me, which graphics card would you get? GTX 760? GTX 770? HD 7970?

And say for the GTXs, which brands would you go for? Asus? Gigabyte? MSI?

Lastly.. HD 7970.. Sapphire or Asus?

Probably AMD will have a tiny bit of advantage due to coming next gen console games will be more optimised for AMD hardware. I'm an AMD user so I'd pick the 7970 naturally but it's up to you really. You want the fastest and can afford, get the 770, you want the cheapest, get the 760, else take the middle ground 7970 if you want...

As for which card manufacturer, I don't believe in all the bells and whistles from more premium brands like ASUS or MSI. I'd go with PowerColor for AMD or Leadtek for nVidia, but that's really just me.
