Hi guys,

My hp computer of 4 years + is dying. Currently I am looking at asus g11cb / aftershock hyper gate. Are these desktop crazily overpriced?

If I'm a complete idiot in pc troubleshooting should I bother getting a custom built pc? The warranty on pre-built system seem really good.

What can I do with around 1.5k? I do not need a monitor.

Thank you for your help!!!

Overpriced. The CPU is good and RAM is sufficient but the rest of the components are lower tier. GTX 960, 128GB SSD etc might suffice if you are a light user but considering how much Asus or Aftershock is charging, you can get better components going the custom route.

On the other hand, if you do not want to build a custom rig, by all means get a pre-built for the warranty and peace of mind. I am not familiar with Aftershock customer support but Asus support is terrible.

If you are lazy/busy or just downright refuse to go to SLS, get onsite warranty. Give them a call when you have issues. You either try to get the best value for your buck like most enthusiasts here or pay for convenience (like everything else in life)

I know pc theme is a very good place to build pc but every time if theres problem with the PC, i have to bring the whole CPU down?

I do not mind going down to the shop to pick my components.

Go distro RMA.... They only want certain part that requires RMA.

I am a complete noob and have always use off-the-shelves desktop. I don't play game which requires intensive graphics too. I play some league and diablo. I think my bro plays final fantasy??

Does that mean I have to know which component is damaged and go to their respective RMA>

Yeap. Or you can always post your query here and we'll help you.
It's much cheaper to build a com by yourself. 1.5k PC can include a gtx 970, sufficient to play most TOTL games.

my brother prefer less hassle and would probably go for asus g11cb(1899) or acer g3-710(1899 +23inch free monitor) at it show.

I did a calculation and found out its really not a bad deal. Which is better among the two?

i7-6700 - 600
RAM 16gb-150
SSD-100
graphics - 300
1tb harddisk - 50
window10-150
case-50
power-50
dvd+fan-50
If i get component it will cost around $1500

So maybe I am paying around 400 more for the peace of mind and whatever component I fail to take into account for?

Thank you for the advices.

I7 is overkill. Waste of money.

now now. You must remember TS that you are asking a forum full of people who knows their stuff. Anyone who knows their stuff and wants to squeeze the best value out of their system will almost never go for off the shelf products. So strictly speaking, the advice you'll receive here 95% of the time would be...go SLS PC themes/Fuwell and get it done.

But I would like to think I know where you come from having been a complete PC idiot for a good part of my life. And my answer to you is still these 3 words "get onsite warranty".

Yes, you'll pay 400 more not for peace of mind but for convenience. If you are here for validation, I would tell you that there is nothing wrong with a GTX 960 when you/your brother plays league, ff and diablo. Hardly AAA stuff at ultra settings that requires 60 fps constant no?

Also, while an i7 might be overkill somewhat, whats to say he doesn't need it in future for processing excels/work/projects etc.

In summary, its not a bad deal. If you get 3 years on site, i'd say thats good value enough for you.

I must say 16gb ram is overkill if you're just doing light gaming.

ASUS H170i-PLUS ( WiFi ) + i5 6500-> 499

I can't rmb if this mobo uses ddr3 or 4.
Kingston value ram 8gb x2?-> 116
Samsung ssd 850 evo 256gb-> 119
Palit gtx 970-> 479
Superflower 550w platinum-> 149
Fractal arc midi r2 -> 139
Toshiba 1tb-> 65
Dvd burner->20+
Windows key buy online ~30-40
~1.6k
(This is just an example, not the best but it has a better price:performance ratio as compared to OEM PC... :s13: :s22:

Initially, i also like to get aftershock tremor, because of the warranty.
But i feel too expensive...

Ask good bros here for recommendation/suggestions and jumped to custom built pc..
read online, watched alot of youtube how to build.

my rig on the right complete with mechanical keyboard cost me not more than $1400..
Mostly playing Steam games.. no problem at all..

But if you are worry about problems arise and you dont bother/want to check yourself.. then maybe getting pre-built pc is for you..

You come here seek advice, surely most would advise you to DIY PC. It is like you go Old Trafford and ask the people there whether football is entertaining.

And the usual standard reply in here for people who can't DIY: learn and ask if required.

You need to understand that people in here are inclined towards DIY PC.

End of the day, make sure you're OK with the possibility of troubleshooting your PC if things go south, if you do decide to go DIY.

Pre-built PCs are more expensive because the manufacturers have to hire technicians at service centre to do servicing and troubleshooting for customers, which most customers may not utilize during warranty period. The costs of support are already factored in upfront, compared to DIY.

Hi thank you for the advices.

Another thing are there any screen recommendations? or it does not make a difference?
I read abit about 1080 and 1440. I will be using a single 970. Which would be recommended? I don't play graphics intensive game.
