Hi All,

Is my first time going to Japan, as only be there for 7 days mostly will be at Toyko. However there are a few places I would like to go but not sure how to plan my itinerary well. Hope you all can give some advise.

Travelling period : 12 oct 2013 to 20 oct 2013

1) Reach Narita airport, Japan noon time
planning to stay at budget hotel near shinjuku, any recommendation?

2) tokyo skytree better or tokyo tower?

3) kiddyland, shinjuku gyoen national garden, isetan, daimaru, sensoji temple at asakusa, shop around shinjuku, disneyland and disneysea

4) Wish to go harajuku to see cosplay. Understand is only every sunday. Best to go during what timing? After that, where or what else we can go?

5) Fujiko F Fujio Museum - see doraemon. Is half a day there enuff? understand need to advance buy the ticket from lawson. Will I able to get any tickets if I purchase at Narita airport the moment i reach?

6) planning to spend a night at Hakone (2d1n), will i be able to cover fuji-hakone-izu national park, lake ashiniko, owakudani, took the tozan railway and hakone ropeway aka cable car?

How should I arrange to go to the above mention places?

Thank you

I feel that Tokyo tower is more iconic but nothing much to see/do there, whereas skytree is new and have many shops.

Harajuku, Shinjuku and Shibuya are around the same area. You can probably lump Harajuku and Shibuya together within 1 day.

5) Fujiko F Fujio Museum - see doraemon. Is half a day there enuff? understand need to advance buy the ticket from lawson. Will I able to get any tickets if I purchase at Narita airport the moment i reach?
Yes, just a few hours should be enough for the Doraemon museum. You can spend the rest of the day at Yokohama maybe? Go Nissin Cup noodle museum near Minato Mirai station at Yokohama to customize your own cup noodle, it's fun.

As for tickets purchasing for Doraemon museum, not sure if there's a lawson's at the airport though. But it should be easy enough to locate a lawson once you are in Tokyo area. Remember, they don't sell any admissions tickets at the museum itself, so you HAVE to purchase before you go to the museum. You have to pick a timeslot too if I'm not wrong.

6) planning to spend a night at Hakone (2d1n), will i be able to cover fuji-hakone-izu national park, lake ashiniko, owakudani, took the tozan railway and hakone ropeway aka cable car?

Maybe something like this?
Day 1: Arrival at Tokyo, spend rest of the day at Shinjuku since you want to stay at Shinjuku.
Day 2 (Sun): Harajuku in the morning till afternoon, then go to Shibuya from late afternoon to evening.
Day 3: Tokyo to Hakone, stay at Hakone
Day 4: Hakone to Tokyo
Day 5: Disneysea
Day 6: Disneyland
Day 7: Doraemon Museum in Kawasaki, then rest of the day go Yokohama before returning to Tokyo at night.
Day 8: Morning go to Sensoji Shrine at Asakusa, then Skytree if you want.
Day 9: Fly back from Tokyo

Are you a female? do you like cute products (Rilakkuma, Hello Kitty...etc?)
If you do, you can probably consider going to Sanrio Puroland if you are a fan of Hello Kitty (or other Sanrio characters), and/or the stretch of shops under Tokyo station which sells Snoopy, Miffy, Hello Kitty, Rilakkuma...etc...products.

Also, please check if the places you will be going (eg Doraemon, Nissin Ramen museum, Puroland ...etc...) will be open on the day of your visit before you finalize your itinerary. Because even themeparks like Puroland doesn't open every day. Only the most popular attractions like Universal Studios, Disneyland, Disneysea opens daily.

hi, for tickets to doraemon museum, you have to purchase at lawson. there is a fixed number of tickets per slot per day, if i rem correctly, the timing is something like 10am, 12pm, 2pm, 4pm. If you can only purchase tickets when you reach japan, i suggest u have a backup plan or have a few days that you can go, because you might not get the timing and slot you want. Weekends sell out fast so dun plan your visit on weekends. And if you like ghibli animation, there is also a ghibli museum within 1hours of shinjuku at mihara, if i rem correctly. purchase of tickets for ghibli museum is the same as doraemon museum

Your Day 7&8 for Hakone, it will be Friday night, so your accommodation is going to be more expensive than weekdays.

[wat time is ur flight? from narita to tokyo is about 1hr. dun think u have much time for so many places. shopping at ueno park? or do u mean ameyoko in ueno?]

Day 2: after bkfast, go see cosplay at harajuku. can shop at
kiddy land & daiso (100yen shop) - same area.
- shop at shibuya area
- go shinkuju gyeon national garden walk walk, after that can go
- takashimaya (if got time and not tired)
[cosplayers doesnt come out so early, probably close to noon. u can visit shinjuku gyeon first since u are staying in shinjuku. harajuku, shinjuku and shibuya in a day is going to be too rush]

Day 3: disneyland

Day 4: disneysea

Day 5: doraemon museum aka Fujiko F. Fujio Museum @ kanagawa (morning to late noon) ^^ was told alot of area in the museum is picture taking not allow, izzit true?

Day 6: mount takao
- what else can we slot to go here?
[u can probably put something in for night time if u are not too tired after takaosan. maybe tokyo tower and roppongi?]

** base on the above, i need to get the 7days JR pass which allow me to travel to all the places, right?
[dun think u need JR pass since u are mostly only travelling within tokyo. JR pass is worth it only if u are taking shinkansen. u can work out the cost of all ur transport and see if it is more than the cost of 28300yen for JR pass]

Day 7 and 8 : 2d1n at Hakone
purchase the hakone free pass (5000yen) to complete the round trip (include train, cable car, ropeway, boat and bus) or I can also use the JR pass for this trip?
[JR pass does not cover the entire trip from tokyo to hakone, only up to odawara coz the rest is not operated by JR company.]
