Hi guys,

appreciate your help. Thanks in advance.

one night while playing a game (starcraft 2 at high settings), average game for my average graphic card (GTX 460), the screen flickered and green lines started appearing on the screen, then it blacked out.

I restarted the comp and updated the graphic card driver, thinking it's outdated driver. It worked for a night.

Next morning tried with same game. Same thing happened. So I reinstalled with old driver, and new driver, doing clean installs. it didn't work. So i thought graphic card spoil.

I went out to buy a graphic card GT 620 and inserted in. The computer didn't boot and beep at all.

I removed it and installed my old 1. Same no boot no beep.

Removed all graphic cards. Same no boot no beep.

I see that the light at the mobo is on. So i think power is alright.

So is it mobo issue?

My specs:

i5-760 on Asus P7-P55M mobo.
8 GB ram 2gb x 4 pcs RAM
Gigabyte GTX 460 (old), MSI GT 620 (new) GPU
WD Green 500GB as boot drive
WD Blue 1TB as another drive
Andyson 530W PSU
1 optical drive

Would like to know whats wrong so I can rectify by buying new components or fix it.

Thanks in advance once again.

hi all thanks for the help.

I discovered that the ram issue is because i didn't push enough. All 4 slots and all 4 pcs of ram are fine with the new gpu.

Essentially, with the original setup with old gpu, i see lines on the screen. With new gpu no such issue. So can i conclude is old gpu fault?

Yup usually Graphical Glitches are GPU related.
RAM related ones will give you BSOD.
If you want to more certain and go use memtest to test your RAM.

thanks for the recommediation.

last night there was another issue. The computer cannot detect my secondary drive. At bios it can detect, when enter windows it still can detect. But when i access the drive, it will close windows explorer and after i reopen, the drive is not there anymore.

My friend recommended me to use another psu power connector to connect. I had no extra, so I took from my optical drive to connect to my primary drive (which is working well), and use the connector from my primary drive to plug into my secondary.

It works. So is it purely power issue, or hdd may have error? Is there any program i can use to test my hdd?

TIA once again!

*edit
I used HDD Scan to do a S.M.A.R.T report. These 2 errors were reported

Reallocation sector count and Reallocation event count.

Any idea what's wrong and any way to salvage?

thanks

Heed my advice:
Sell away your current desktop PC and buy a new one.

Your PC seems to be a bit unstable.
