Need help in upgrade/build pc

Hi guys,

I need some assistance in upgrade/build my pc, playing Dota2, Ragnarok Online and some light editing/rendering .

Reason: Intend to upgrade since most of my parts quite old already
Budget: 500-800 exclude gpu if needed

Ryzen 5 2600 to ?
Should i upgrade the Motherboard ?
Ram : 16gb should be enough ?
Gpu : not intending to upgrade at the moment since still usable and doesnt affect much in my games


Current spec :
Ryzen 5 2600
Msi b450 tomahawk
Zotac Gtx 1060
Ram : 12gb ( 8 + 4 )

MB is fine.

The RAM should be 2X8 GB of DDR4-3200 or 3600. Suggest you sell the existing RAM and get 2X8 GB instead.

As for the CPU, seems adequate to me. You can upgrade to Ryzen 3600 or 3300X but don't really seem worthwhile unless you need very high FPS at 1080p.

The one thing you should upgrade is to get an SSD for the OS and games.

not sure why u think this way but gpu is the determining factor in game quality. anyway ur cpu is still viable for both gaming and editing work. and like koenig said get dual channel ram, crucial ballistix and corsair vengeance lpx seems to be quite popular nowadays.

I understand, currently i am not experencing lag or drop in fps but will be upgrading it in future.

huh siala so ex ah, where u buying from? lazada selling 2x8gb 3600 for $150, official store with lifetime warranty. for ryzen 2nd gen i think 3200mhz is enough though, was considering getting the crucial ballistix 3000mhz one on amazon for about $115, then oc to 3200.

Since you not really having issues, I'd say wait for next year when new toys come out. Then build a new rig with r7/r9 instead. Should last you 5-7 yrs then? Excellent for editing also

With the incremental upgrades you wanting to make now, you will see some improvement of bout 20-30% when editing? Gaming not much diff, since currently, you not having fps issues so maybe graphics can bump up more and look nicer a bit, but the gpu will gimp how much you can push the graphics anyway.

If you do decide to upgrade now, make sure to get a cooler. Cheap one enough. The 3600 stock coolers cannot make it.

Why don't you just get these for SGD104.36 + SGD2.99 for Amazon Prime. Don't even need to OC

Just change ur ram. Seriously ryzen needs dual channel. But be warn if u r using 3600 ur ram speed supported is listed max 3466mhz. U get 3600 mhz now might need to down clock it. But future proof is fine. I just brought 3733 for mine and it refused to boot for any speed above 3400.apart from that tune your ram speed using ryzen ram calculater. Alot of videos on YouTube. Apart from that I think 1060 is fine for your use, can wait for rtx3000 series or upcoming rdna2 amd cards.

yes, my current max is only 2933mhz for ryzen 2600 , so conclusion , i can upgrade my ram & ssd first than wait few months

As of now the only upgrade you MUST do is upgrade the RAM. Not sure if anyone has 3600Mhz working on a B450 Tomahawk but if you do please advise so the TS can decide between 3200Mhz and 3600Mhz RAM.

Everything else you should wait for new stuff to launch. Reason is simple, even if your not going for the high end stuff, whatever your eyeing up now will drop in price when there is a lot more newer options available.

Go with what you comfortable with. We just throwing options to help you make informed choices.

But yeah, Id say if theres no pressing need, just put up with the rig until we get more info on next gen Ryzen. Build up the war chest for major revamp.

Prices a bit inflated at the moment too since supply chain affected. Wait for things to stabilise.

I would have suggested get a game console instead if gaming are your concerns but that also not a good idea now. New consoles coming out in like a few months time and Nintendo Switch prices are WWAAYYY inflated at this time.

an i5 7th generation cpu is decent.

the upgrade using $600-$800 will not see much improvements and selling old parts would not get you much back as you will have to sell as a pair.

For memory - are you using at least 6GB of it? If you are, can you just add 8GB and be done with it without changing the mainboard?

I would recommend changing GPU only and keep CPUs and mainboards for 5 years.
