Need help on a budget PC

Hi all,

My 6 year old PC broke and i'm looking to build a budget PC, hopefully under 1k, for some light gaming (dota, left 4 dead, etc mostly old games), web browsing (with many tabs) & watching movies. Managed to gather this much from PC themes & other threads (probably will just shop at simlim & assemble at PC themes) and could really use some advice:

1) CPU - total noob here, any recommendations?
2) Motherboard - total noob here, any recommendations?
3) GPU - not sure if i need to get one for those above mentioned games?
4) Ram - G.SKILL RIPJAWS V 2666MHZ CL15 ( 4GBx2pcs ) SGD 89
5) SSD - SAMSUNG EVO 860 250GB 2.5" SSD SGD 89
6) HDD - WESTERN.D 2TB BLUE ( 5400RPM ) SGD 85
7) PSU - SEASONIC M12II-MODULAR 620W SGD 115
8) Casing - SHAR KOON TG5 ATX ( White , Blue , Red ) SGD 89 (any other good airflow budget case to recommend?)
9) Windows - how much do these go for nowadays?

TOTAL: SGD 467

Might add in my old HDD (WD 2TB green) if it ain't broke so i'm not sure if the power supply is sufficient considering if the external GPU is included.

Quick question, I actually have an old GTX 670 2GB, not sure if it's better than the integrated Ryzen 2400g.

GTX 670 is definitely better, around 33% for CS:GO 1080p.

another thing is from my past experience, tradepac is cheaper than pcthemes if you know what you are getting.

my existing built 80% from tradepac and my pc is built by pcthemes for SGD30 many years back.

if you are looking to maximize your budget

this is the build that i would recommend you (based on dynacore pricelist)

CPU and MOBO - Ryzen 2600 with Asrock B450M-HDV - 377sgd
RAM - KLEVV BOLT X 3200MHz CL16 2x8gb DDR4 RAM - 155sgd
SSD - 240gb wd ssd - 60sgd
PSU - FSP 600W PSU - 70sgd
CASE - CM Masterbox MB510L - 74sgd
GPU - PowerColor RX570 4Gb Red Dragon OC - 220sgd
OS - Windows from lazada - less than 20 sgd

total of 976 sgd. When you buy windows from lazada they will give you a cd key that u need to activate by yourself.

This 6 core 12 thread build will allow you to play all old games and even recent games at 1080p decent fps. Best part is that in the future if you want to upgrade your pc u can just change your graphic card and chances are that it will not be bottle necked.




If you want to budget your build

Heres another recommendation for you also based on dynacore price list except for ram

CPU and MOBO : Ryzen 2200g + ASROCK B450M-HDV : 240sgd
RAM : 2x4gb HyperX FURY DDR4 2666mhz : 69sgd
PSU : FSP 600W : 60sgd

You will be able to play games like dota,csgo,league of legends at medium to low settings at decent fps, even fortnite is playable. Dont expect to see frames above 100 for this build though. This is the kind of build that you build if you are the kind that plays dota2 once a week or so and watch netflix plus surf the net.

@bobozhang137 For ts usage and budget, no point going 2600. Furthermore, the PSU you recommending to pair with 2600 is sufficient for maybe a super slight overclock. Don't forget due to precision boost, the cpu will still "auto overclock" which might cause issues when you use a crappy 600watt psu. Also don't forget that this is am4. Ts can choose to upgrade cpu when new chip which supports am4 socket is released.

@ts Just stick with 2200g or 2400g would be good enough for your usage. The PSU if you wanna add in your gtx670, gotta use around 600 watts which imo is not worth it if you are just on those games as 2400g is good enough for those.

My worry is whether the PSU of 600W is sufficient or do i need to get more to be safe?

See the problem is if you commit to this and your gpu dies, you basically have a brick as only 2200g/2400g comes with in built gpu. So if you buy a basic gpu like the rx 560, it could set you back a further 100-150 bucks.

You will also see 0 improvement as your usage is really light. Also, the cpu can be upgraded at any time as long as it supports am4 platform. So you could literally just remove the cpu and replace with a 3xxx or 4xxx ryzen cpu in the future.

As for the board, yes it's the ports.

For PSU, what matters more is quality of the PSU, not wattage. Though 500 is fine for your built if you don't have gpu + some overclock or have a gpu but not overclocking either cpu or gpu. 600/650 is recommended if you want to overclock + have a gpu.

ASRock B450 Pro4 has more features like ports etc, and is better for overclocking due to better VRM.

But ASRock B450M HDV is fine if you're not going to overclock, or if you only intend to overclock lightly.

Your build will probably use around an estimated 400W+-, so 600W is enough.

You need to go high tier PSUs when you want to overclock, you can go lower tier PSUs when you don't need to overclock but don't get those unknown brand non-80+ PSUs. Not to say that just because the PSU comes from a known brand eg. Coolermaster or is 80+ means the PSUs are of good quality but it's just a baseline for you. Brand names can come with shitty quality 80+ PSUs too.

One thing to note is that when two PSUs share the same model name, but different watt versions eg. 550w and 750w versions can end up using different grades of components putting them in different PSU tiers.

Why not do a troubleshooting and see which part is spoiled then decide.

The com doesn't boot to bios even without the SSD (maybe there's a short circuit somewhere cos it barely boot for 2 seconds before tripping). Might be something else too.

Probably just let it die a naturally cause after 6 years.

tripping? no power after turning on? like the cpu/fan turn on for a few seconds then turn off?

most sensible thing to check is ur power cable and psu

ssd/hdd not something easy to spoil, unless is old like 10+ years or heavy users..
