$1200-$1300

CPU & Mobo: i5-3450 & Asrock B75M-DGS @ $300
Since this is a gaming rig, save a little bit on your CPU and mobo, channel all the savings to get a better gpu. There isn't any significant difference between i5-3450 and i5-3570 and features offered by B75M-DGS should be able to meet your minimal requirement.
Ram: G.Skill 1600mhz value ram 8GB @ ~$72
ODD: Samsung DVD RW @ $22
HDD: Hitachi Deskstar 1TB @ ~$80
SSD: Plextor M5P 128GB @ $150
GPU: Powercolor 7950 PCS @ $385
7950 performs better than GTX 660 and it comes with free game bundles, Crysis 3 and Bioshock Infinite. IMO, it offers better value than GTX 660.
Case: NZXT Phantom 410 @ $154
PSU: FSP Platinum 550W @ $125

Total: $1288
Buy and build at Tradepac.

Some things to take note when dealing with Tradepac:

  • Be firm with your decision when buying from Tradepac. Don't be swayed by their sales assistant to upgrade and buy more expensive components which you don't require.
  • Check all the components you plan to purchase are correct before you make payment.
  • Stay at the shop and supervise them as they assemble your rig and make sure they return all spare chassis parts. You might want to take note that Tradepac cable management skills may not be up to your satisfactory level.

Hi , I recently built my own gaming rig after being a long time console gamer. Totally no experience at building just own PC but still I went ahead with it and had the time of my life.

So you say you have no idea how this works? No worries , just do my research online with places like TomsHardware or Reddit's subreddits like Build-a-PC or gamingpc.

My two cents worth , what u need to concern yourself is to what genre of games you"ll be playing and if you would wanna play these games at the highest settings. Based on this, you should further research as to whether you'd prefer a GPU from Nvidia or AMD. The GPU is probably the most important factor if you are building a gaming rig. So do take your time and research .

Next up would be a motherboard. Are you going with an Intel or AMD cpu will also affect that decision. Now AMD chips are cheaper than Intel but there's like only a handful of motherboards for choice here locally . Also you might wanna look at different motherboards and read and know more about certain things before you eventually settle on one. Stuff like how many PCIe lanes each mobo has or if they're WIFI ready or Bluetooth ; stuff like that ... FYI , when I thought I finally settled on a particular mobo, I actually changed my mind thrice before finally settling on one from MSI...

Bottom line is , don't rush . Take your time to read reviews and research on all the parts of your upcoming built. Best would be walk around sim lim and take their price lists home and review all the parts which captures your fancy online.

I hope you are gonna assemble all the components together too because I think the journey would not be complete if you didn't fix them up yourself. But that's a personal choice but for me , it was one of the most satisfying things ever. More so when so-called tech experts told me to just don't risk it get the shop to do it for me. Then again I bought all my parts from different shops .

Anyways , if you do need help or any query whatsoever, don't hesitate to ask !

Have fun!!!

may i know whats the difference between the powercolor hd7950 and the PCS version?

Reference and non reference. Non reference gpu has more oc potential, runs cooler and quieter compared to reference design.
