My office recently adopted an ERP software for Billing/Management/Time tracking/logging purposes and have it setup on a cloud server. Problem is that it is too sluggish and slow to use.

Thinking of setting up an inhouse server rack/tower. Need advise on what exactly we need to get one going. Not really hardware savvy here so please be kind.

to start, probably we need 8GB RAM, 1TB Storage. Not a huge office, just under 20 users.
do we need anything else? (rack/cooler/noise suppresser?)

Do advise where is the best place to buy, price range or where to best seek advise about such matter.

Thanks!

For servers, you should not DIY. The reason is that you need support. You can't afford to bring your hardware to SLS or distributor for RMA while your server is down. also take not distributor do not offer 1-1 exchange.

Get server with support plan from brands like Dell/HP etc.... Got problem call them come down fix on the spot.

U will also need high availability, backup, redunancy, etc. If only just setup one server, anything happen to that server, all data will be gone.

imo 20 ppl no need extended to rack/tower server. either use nas/ old dekstop or improve your network bandwidth. Maybe that is the cause for sluggish cloud server.

Thanks guys, really appreciate your comments. The server will serve said software as well as several other purposes, so we really prefer having one in-house.

Meanwhile, what do you think about this specs?

Serial IBM Tower x3500 M4
Processor: 1 x Intel® Xeon® 6-Core Processor E5-2620v2, 2.1GHz 15M 7.2GT/s QPI
Ram: upgrade to 16GB
HDD: 2x 146Gb SAS 15 krpm + 2x 1Tb SATA 7krpm
Power: dual power hotswap

Possible?

Possible but why don't you get RAID 5 array? Easier to maintain. Best is to have hot swap capability also. Can replace failed drives easily and rebuild array.
