Need help on ITX build

Hi gurus,

Am planning for a new build to be up and running in June. My last build was back in year 2003(?), and I've been a laptop user ever since.
Need all the gurus to advise on components as well as feasibility for this ITX.

Main purpose of this build
1) serving as 4K HTPC
2) some casual 4K gaming - on 4K tv, titles like rise of tomb raider, nier

I might end up moving this build into study room for home desktop / gaming use.

Asus Strix Z270i
i7 7700K
Corsair Vengeance 2x8GB kit 3200
Fractal Design Core 500
Corsair RM650x
Zotac GTX1080 Amp Extreme
Intel 600p 512GB
Corsair H100i


I have mixed feelings about getting the Z270 and 7700K, not sure if I am going to OC at all.
Should I get H270 platform (like the Gigabyte H270N) coupled with 7700?
Does the clearance in the ITX case good enough for H100i and a full GTX1080 card? Youtube videos looks like it can clear... but I still have doubts.

Appreciate your comments and guidance. Kam xia in advance!

I don't think the casing can house such a long card.
Either change your casing to a bigger one with better airflow and change to atleast matx since its no point for big case and itx mobo.

Or, grab a mini size 1080 and sacrifice some fps and higher temp.

Any recommendations for matx case? I'm just worried it stands out like sore eye in the living area.

U can always have a look at those htpc case. Silverstone and fractal design has quite a few. Problem is that some are more expensive and some are rather bulky.

I personally find the node 202 to be quite swee. But heard it's a challenging case to use, and it's a mitx case

I used to be using a Silverstone LC16M case in my living room. Its a very bulky case. Even my Tv console was built by my Carpenter to be able to house this case. Sadly, it became worn out and broke down after several years and I recently bought a cheapo coolermaster matx case to house the components. After a while u dun really see it as a sore thumb anymore :)

You might want to take a look at the newegg link for cases available in the market and which suits your taste because what you thought is cool might be ugly to me.Then confirm if it is available here.

the easiest way is actually change the gpu to zotac 1080 mini. That's if you don't mind the slight weaker performance, it's cheaper also.
Of course, there're other gtx1080 that fits within 310mm but do note some takes up 2.5pcie slot

card length is not a problem, once you remove the odd tray of the core 500, you can fit up to 330mm gpu in there

not sure though if the gpu fan or shroud will hit the side panel, i am using the same case with a 980ti with 2.5 slot cooler, it fits just fine

as noted you can switch to 1080 mini, but it will generate more noise compared to the amp extreme due to a smaller fan thus higher rpm. you also would be able to play with the fan curve to minimise noise on the amp version

if you wont be overclocking, i suggest switching to a different board and proc, 7700k is a heat monster even on stock clocks.. switching to the b250i strix and 7700 non-k maybe more suitable if you do not plan to OC

PSU wise, if you can get a smallest psu the better. look for something that is at most 140mm in depth. i am using the corsair sf600 on mine

If you dont mind slightly bigger case for more airflow, the Phantek ITX Evolv is one of the best iTX cases.


Get a SFX PSU as well, something like the Corsair one. I am not too sure why you will go for the AMP extreme, just the normal AMP will do, or since you have cash to burn, just go straight for the 1080 Ti FE.

Thanks for the recommendation bro. Yeah, I've considered node 202, but after watching the Youtube videos on node202 builds, I'm kinda scared already. :eek:

I just realized that the Zotac 1080 Amp Extreme is a longer card than Amp alone! :eek:
But if 1080 mini, hmmm, I rather go full blown.

Hmm, I'm not hung on having Asus strix. Gigabyte H270 is fine for me too.
If that's the case I'll switch to Gigabyte H270i plus 7700.
I'm now looking at Zotac 1080Ti FE... is SF600 enough?

I looked at the Phanteks, looks good! Plus having the side window huh :s12:
1080Ti FE huh... another $220 bucks, hmmm.
I wonder why is the FE edition is at 266.7mm whereas the AMP edition is 325mm. Is that correct from Zotac's website?

I just bought the phantek itx evolv to swap out the parts from my elite 110a. Casing of these form factors are really a heat monster.

Am intending to use the elite 110a case to house another upcoming simpler build. Hopefully it will be much cooler with a build that is of lower spec

Builded on a node 202 before. That casing is good and honestly not hard to build. Lemme know if you need some tips on building on it.

600W is enough for locked i7 and 1080ti FE. Google "outervision" for psu calculator to know how to calculate how much wattage you need.

Amped edition is after market cooler while founder edition is the original nvidia cooler. Size wise, it's not wrong, the amped edition is wider and longer but same 2 slot PCIE height.

Alright, many thanks gurus!
Decided to swap to the below components:
Gigabyte H270N
i7 7700
Asus Turbo GTX1080 (this is a much shorter card!)
Am not decided on phantek or core 500 yet.

Any shop to recommend in SimLim? Is Cybermind or Tradepac ok?

Hesitating between ITX and mATX now.

Going for Nvidia 1070 but may wanna put two for parallel computation tasks.
