Hi all i will be going to jaoan tokyo in March for 14days however i was wondering if i would go to Osaka and Kyoto or Hokkaido either one.Should I buy the jr rail pass ? I am not too sure whether its worth it or not as I know if i am traveling to Hokkaido by train it would take very long to reach there and I need to pay extra.

However due to tight budget i would also to ask for recommendation for two pax budget ard 80-100 per night.

If I am traveling in tokyo any way to save money in transport if i dont buy the jr pass ?

Or if i want to go Osaka and Kyoto is there any way cheaper? Please advise!

I guess on a tight budget and a short time, just stick to either Tokyo area or Osaka/Kyoto area. If you limit to one area only, then there's no need to get JR Pass. Lodging for 40-50 per pax is available in the hostels.

cheap accom in shinjuku will be those sleazy type, shinjuku is famous for red light district. no private restroom and shower, no amenities. I will advise in order to fully enjoy the trip, save more then travel, stress free.

Travel to Osaka, either overnight bus or train, both not cheap but bus will save you a night hotel stay and do make sure your return flight is from Osaka Kansai Airport and usually for multi stop will be slightly expensive

other than overnight buses, u can also look out for budget domestic flight. can be quite cheap when there is a promotion.

accommodation is not going to be cheap in the non-sleazy part of shinjuku. if budget is a constraint, u may wanna consider other areas such as ueno or asakusa. what is ur budget for accommodation per pax per night?
