Hi guys, recently my graphic card (Asus GTX 550Ti) went dead on me after 3+ yr of usage. Right now i am considering to change mobo+cpu+RAM instead of replacing graphic card as I am quite tight on budget + not playing computer games anymore. (current desktop ASUS P5Q Pro mobo + Core2Quad Q9550 + 2x2gb RAM 800mhz 5 yrs old alrdy)

In my mind right now, I am thinking of this combo to replace : Asrock H81M DGS + Intel 4150 + 1 stick 4GB ram which cost approx 260+ to 290 in total. I have a few question right now,
1) is this setup a upgrade or downgrade (other than gfx part)
2) is the integrated graphic HD4400 enough for me ?
3) does integrated graphic last longer ? My experience with gfx card is that they seems to fail right after warranty ends :( which means 1-3yrs and quite problematic at times
4) Is Asrock H87 PRO4 more worthwhile to buy instead of H81M DGS (cost 50-60 bucks more).

Current usage : lite activities such as surfing web, simple office tool, watching good qualities FHD movies, drama, music etc..

Thanks for any help and advice. Its been some time since i change any computer parts, sorry if i ask stupid questions.

1) Downgrade
2) HD4400 is good enough to play dota2 at all low setting, no problem with basic usage.
3) Never heard of this before. CPU die = Igpu die together.

1) Not noticable upgrade for movies (Pentium CPU can also be used for these purposes.) , downgrade for gaming.

2) iGPU is good enough for movies.

3) Not sure, think also heng suay. Got such thing as iGPU die yet CPU is still functioning. (Then must buy GPU.)

4) Not really. Motherboard build quality nowadays are quite even across chipsets and brands and hence buying a more expensive motherboard may not help your rig to last longer.

5) To be honest, since you are just using it to watch movies and do office work, just get a dirt cheap GPU like the MSI GT 610 for $72. The CPU + Mobo upgrade can wait until after one of them dies out on you.

The most you will need is a Pentium and a H81 chipset together with DDR 3 4gb rams.

Thanks for all the prompt reply there :) .

So i assume the conclusion here is that iGPU is sufficient.

One of the reason there that I wanted to replace the whole mainboard + CPU is because my current system is like 5yr old alrdy.(how long more can it last usually ?). Further more there is support of usb 3.0 can be useful for my data transfer to my devices, and like 50% less power consumption based on CPU alone.

Last thing i m concern here is stability of iGPU. Is it normally longer lasting than external GFX (2 gfx down alrdy since i have build my desktop 5 yrs ago).

Is Pentium + H81 a better choice ? Will it be future proof , say watching a 4k quality movie in future ?

iGPU is inbuild into the processors these days. Its quite hard for a processor to up lorry imo.

Next would be watching 4k videos. Do you see yourself buying a 4k display from now till perhaps 2 years time? Cause the 4k displays right now are insanely expensive, be it TV or monitors.

Pentium iGPU is equipped with a intel HD display graphics. It is capable to power up up to a full HD. If you really want a 4k playback, you would need an i3.
