Hi all, would need your generous and kind advice on the rig that I intend to build..

Budget would be about 1k-1.5k, without the need for keyboard and mouse but I do not have a monitor..
I would also use this computer for editing videos + rendering, playing some games like D2/CSGO/BF1 and browsing of the net.
Would most probably like one that can render & game at the same time.
I have no idea what would be the preferred one, be it i7 or i5 but I'm guessing it plays a part in making the computer run a bit smoother..
Would most probably also want a smaller SSD to house my games and OS and stuff.

Please do advise on the build that I can get!
Thank you so much!

Oh and some of you stated that I can get windows 10 OS in reddit.
Is it going to be placed in a USB stick and then plugged in to the computer when its booting?

You will be better suited with i7. Games you play and video edit/render are all Cpu intensive stuff.

Reddit will provide you with the windows key. You can download Windows 10 from Microsoft and flash it to your USB drive to use as a boot drive.

Will you be doing overclocking? Would suggest you don't focus so much on aesthetic as it's a premium to pay for those and given your budget you would like to push every cent to gain as much performance as you can.

I doubt I will be doing overclocking!
And yes, I would prefer to push every cent as compared to having a nice looking one but lower speed and such~

Hmm, what do you suggest if I take the i5 one?
Like, what build do you think I should go for?

I5-6500 with asus h110m m.2 d4-$420
16gb ddr4 ram-$160
Psu- superflower silver 650w-$139
Gpu-zotac 1060 3gb amp ed.-$330

Remaining budget u choose own case and monitor lor. All these are estimated prices excluding discount. For graphics card get from qoo10 with coupon discount while mobo with cpu go buy from sim lim as a bundle.

coupon for the $60. http://list.qoo10.sg/gmkt.inc/Special/Special.aspx?sid=1411
for the cpu+mobo, u could just buy from pcthemes @ 410 if u dun like the hassle. u could get a kabylake one but the 200 series mobo is way more expensive (about 100+ more) or just use a skylake series mobo (both are using lga 1151 and can work).

gpu u could get the amp edition as i find the mini quite toasty unless u replace the stock thermal paste.

i forget to include a hdd. u could just get a 1tb one for 60+ to 70. not a problem. but might have better deals soon. i too lazy to check it all out.

casing wise u could get anything u fancy (matx or atx casing). now, the key thing is whether u want to self assemble or not. if u wish to, u can save some money (assembly fee has a cost too). alternatively, u could lug everything to nigel's shop and ask for advice.

a rig quote that i help another guy to design. feel free to ask questions or edit anything that u want to.

Kabylake and skylake, the difference is in speed right?
Which is more practical then, for my usage?

And I think I might want to self assemble, because I did it once with a friend before.
Anything that I might have to take note of before I do it though?

Hmm, this is quite a bit over my budget.. because still need to buy monitor!
But the key point is the i7 right?
If the i7 change to i5, I would get a much lower price, yes?

Skylake is pretty disappointing. Apparently the speeds are very similar. The only difference afaik is... igpu. Otherwise performance are too similiar.

If u want to diy, make sure the standoffs are mounted before putting the mobo into the casing. I cannot stress the importance of this further. There are many YouTube videos to help

Hit down to an i5 lor. i7 is a premium. While it does show significant improvements in your rendering, drawback is the hefty price.

If a little waiting time doesn't hurt, go with the i5

Ahh, then maybe I might just get kaby for this.
Would i5 be able to play most games in high settings though?

And do you suggest putting in all the standoffs or just enough?
And for electrostatic discharge, what do you suggest I do?
Googling brings up touching a water tap and stuff like that.. What will happen if there is still electrostatic discharge?

Yup, I agree that it is a premium and I will be paying for what I am getting..
But which i5 do you suggest?
Or the ones that were suggested below will do the job?

I5-6500 will do.

High is no problem. Ultra also can. The standoffs are usually on the casing itself. It's made of brass to insulate the mobo from the casing. There will be sockets on your mobo to indicate the location of the standoffs.

Tbh, the discharge I not worried. Sg don't have much static buildup.

Hmm, then for the casing, is it very generic?
In a sense that if I get the standard casing, it can fit everything?

And about the discharge, to ensure that nothing bad happens, do I need to stand on anything or what?

And will the standoffs come with the case or with the mobo?

Must see size. Itx,matx and atx. Atx can fit all la as it is biggest.

No I don't think so.

Comes with casing

(TL;DR Advice)

Wow man!
Thanks for taking the time off to curate such a detailed reply!
Just a few quick questions..
The small stuff like screws and washers, will they come with the case or I have to purchase them separately?
Do you suggest me getting the case and items then deciding on what small items to get?

As for the drivers and stuff, what are the main ones I should download?
