Need help, PC suddenly won’t turn on

Was using the PC when suddenly the whole thing just powered off. When I press the power button, nothing happens - no fan spin or led light or beep sound.

I don’t have a spare PSU, so I tried using a paper clip to test the PSU and the PSU fan did start spinning.

Is it a PSU or motherboard issue? Any other ways I can try to troubleshoot?

Likely is PSU problem, go nearer PSU smell if got any burnt smell. Not sure if the paper clip method can detect all PSU fault or not.

Maybe also try unplug all ram and plug in ram again then try to turn on.

Plug out everything first (PSU) from the mother board , paper clip test use a molex to 3pin see if external fan can or run or not. Don't do paper clip while still having some of the PSU plugged into other parts of the system.

if cannot turn on, PSU is gone. Other parts might have gone with the PSU but thats the first thing you change and check.

No smell, tried unplugging the graphics card and replug one ram etc. still no reaction. Maybe really have to order a PSU online liao. Hopefully it’s a PSU issue and not the motherboard problem.

Get a multimeter, measure if there is power coming from the PSU. If unsure, go easy and check only the fan 4 pin power (Pin1 Ground (black), Pin 2 +12VDC). Google to have a better picture.
Dont try to measure the psu 8pin or 24pin connector unless u sure which pin to measure.

I have tried using two PSU, one of them from another working system so I doubt it is a PSU issue anymore

Since you have another working system. Try this power supply on working system to confirm this power supply is good. Rest is mother board already.

If PSU fan spin, high chance it's working. Sudden power off with no signs of life is probably faulty motherboard.

Hijack the thread.

I dug out another old Acer PC. Plug power in and pressed power button. Saw the CPU fan spinning and I was happy.

But it was short lived. Not beep sound, no display.

The CPU fan just keep spinning there.

I went online to check, got people say take out all the RAM sticks and power up again and there should be beeping warning sound that the system got no RAM. I tried that, still same thing, CPU fan spinning and no beep sound and no display.
