hi guys,

my pc had been acting strange recently, with my nvidia drivers sometimes stop working and causing my screen to flicker etc, so i tried to install the latest drivers for it but am unable to do so (tried using both custom with clean and express installation, tried it in safe mode, tried a few driver uninstallers etc but nothing seems to work). Now, based on the default windows drivers for the vga card, i get some funny green lines all around my screen.

A few questions:
1) is my gfx card dead? (current card is a GTX 460 from palit bought sometime in 2011 i believe)
2) if so, which card should i get considering that my mobo is the Asus P5K premium? My budget is around 100-150 max for the card, as i'm looking to get a new pc altogether soon, but want to leave the old comp for my parents to use?

Thanks!

Downclock the card. Most probably your card could not sustain the speed as of now.

Lol I had a similar problem with a Asus gtx 460, it just would not accept the drivers whatever version i used. It was able to boot up and everything but could only use the standard windows vga driver. I flashed the firmware and it still wouldn't work. Was told it's faulty and finally gave up and threw it away.

I'm not saying you should throw yours away but it does seem the card has problems. Could well be time to get a new one. If your parents are using your old comp for basic purposes, a simple low end card like GT610 will more than suffice, unless they want to play battlefield 4!

Hi,
Not knowing any better, I bought Leadtek GT610. Same problem you mentioned. Multiple tries after driver installations with the monitor going to sleeping during "Starting Windows".
Finally now, PC running BUT Display Adapter shows using Standard VGA Graphics Adapter NOT Nvidia GT610... :(

Did your reformatting PC get the GT610 driver working now?

Anyone, please help ... thank you.
