Need Help remembering a Movie Title

hi guys,

several years back, I once came upon an african movie which is about gangfights, guns, and opium whatnot.

the movie somewhat started with a chicken running around the village and then flashed back about what happened previously, and enacted all the way back.

I can only vaguely remember an african kid took up a gun and killed many people in the scene.

anyone knows what movie I'm talking about? would like to watch it again but couldn't find it cos I forgot the title. please help me ! thanks.

Set in Brazil. Not Africa.

But then again don't have gun killing people in the opening scene so I may be wrong.

Think u r right. City Of God starts with a scene where a chicken escapes and an armed gang chasing after it. But wrong to generalise all dark skinned people to be Africans and drugs to be opium.
