Hi guys, am currently using a Seagate central 4TB Nas with warranty till next year 2016. Everything was fine till recently encounter the top green light blinking and network can't detect even on mobile app. Tried resetting everything, still no luck. Anyone faces the same issues before? Or owns one?

Did a search, which is a known issue. Also says the unit is down but the HDD is still ok. If I were to RMA it, best guess is they will format the HDD rite? Is there any alternative ways or non destructive methods to retrieve my data from the Nas?

Anyone? Cheers

Download the ubuntu 14.04 LTS install iso( < 2GB) and write it to a bootable Thumb drive. Boot up your pc with this Thumb drive and select "try ubuntu without install" then you plug in the nas hard disk to your pc and you can copy the data from the nas drive to your windows drive or any USB portable hard disk.

Reasoning behind: NAS uses linux ext3 or ext4 file system. So ubuntu will be able to read/write and copy to your windows ntfs file system. That'll save your data before sending for RMA.

Hi hi, so this means I have to pry open the casing to reach the HDD rite? Or I can just hook it up and hopefully my pc can detect it in network and do what you suggested?? Thanks, sorry late reply, busy with weddings prep..
