Will be doing heavy gaming and video rendering.

I intend to stick with the gtx 970, ram size and ssd. Others are open to changing. Please do give your opinion!

Heavy video rendering?

If so, X99 platform would be a better alternative as you really need those extra cores to shave off time.

And you need more SSDs or bigger capacity (needed for cache and render previews). Better yet, you can consider NVME based SSDs for even better write/read speeds.

Get the EVO drive. Cheaper and you won't really notice the difference.

Thermal compound can get MX 4 from Lazada.

Do you need such an expensive mobo? Imo can go for cheaper ones. If need WiFi/Bluetooth can get external adapter/pcie card.

Oh i see, EVO it is. Thanks for the recommendation for MX4.

What mobo would you suggest? was considering the gaming5 and was unsure of similar spec mobo from gigabyte or even asrock

Gaming series from MSI is fine since from gaming 5 and above, boards offer SLI support and varying functionality.

For aasrock and Gigabyte, not all z97 gaming boards offer SLI. Do keep a lookout if you intend do SLI in future.

Lol, you got a lousy cooler and psu on top of a high end cpu/mobo/ram? Looks damn stupid and noobish to me.

Pity whoever you are selling that combo to, worst is if its for your frenz.
