I just got this 2012 MacBook air from my daughter, wanted to test out Macbook as I have always been using windows

Managed to erase everything in the hard drive and tried to reinstall the is but failed. currently Yosemite OS is installed in the machine but understand that I can upgrade to Catalina OS.

It got stuck at the stage where I have to key in my apple id and password which I did but received error message saying that my id or password is wrong. I tried the same id and password on another laptop several times and it is working fine. I changed the password just in case and still failed

But the thing is although it claimed that my id or password is incorrect, I received verification code on my ipad

what could be wrong and what can I do?

Is it perhaps “expecting” the ID & passcode of your daughters previous login???

for mac before reformatting, need to logout of all apple accounts. There is a workaround to remove without knowing the previous apple id account. you need to google harder.

It was on Yosemite when I got it and after I formatted it. then somehow I left it over night and tried again, it booted up into mountain lion. so I managed to setup the laptop

But when I finish setting up n tried to login to my apple account, again I couldn't. Googled a little and managed to upgrade it to Catalina. and after that everything is working

How is it on Catalina? Does it affect the processing speed? Great to hear that a 10
year old laptop can still run Catalina OS fine.

this is my first MacBook, not very sure if it is ok but I feel a little laggy. could be some hardware issues too, it was in the cabinet for few years
