Hi guys,

I'll be upgrading from a 780ti to a 980ti.. both are from EVGA and classified ed..

It's the first time I'm doing it, so wanna be sure.. do I just unplug the old gpu, plug in the new and the boot up? Do I have to reinstall driver? A friend told me no need as they use the same drivers.. so now I'm confused :s22:

need unplug power card connected to the psu as well. then plug in the power to your new gpu... During unplug your gtx 780ti, there is something to press on the pcie slot to release your card.. just be careful not to break ok?

Then sell me your 780ti cheap cheap ok? :D

If u r into sound, get an external USB DAC or external USB soundcard. Forget about internal soundcards, they were so last-gen and they induce a lot of unwanted EMI into the computer.

Do you have any external DAC to recommend?

Can connect subwoofer + 2 speakers to the DAC right?

I'm looking at creative x7.. what do u think?

Buying Creative X7 to connect to Swans M50W is pretty much waste of money.

As a rule of thumb, follow the 1:2 rule. The speakers should cost roughly twice the price of the DAC/soundcard. So an Asus Xonar U7, Fiio E17, or any DAC around the $150-$200 price range will suffice.

To be frank, stick with ur onboard. Google a bit and u find that the U7 and ur Asus Maximus 6 Formula have the same DAC chip (Cirrus Logic CS4398). Upgrading (or side-grading as I would call it) to the Burr-Brown PCM1794 on the Creative X7 is gonna be a waste of money without real performance gains.

Found a thread on CS4398 vs PCM1794 (link: http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/digital-line-level/137976-experience-diy-dac-335.html). If u check post #3342 in that forum thread, the comment describes the difference very well: "CS4398 Rock n´roll PCM1794 HiFi".

Ah man :(

I didn't know my board's soundchip is decent to this extent..

But I got a sound problem.. Hope you can provide some insight.. Now whenever I need to use my headset.. I'd plug it into the audio jack/mic jack at the front of my cpu... then the speakers would auto mute...

Once I remove it.. the speakers unmute...

But it's really troublesome having to plug in plug out.. got a solution :(
I really don't even want to select output device on window..

Set speakers to default playback device.

Huh, so now when u plug in headset, do the speakers mute or unmute? Previous post u told me mute, now u tell me unmute...

Anyway there shld be a setting somewhere in the Asus SupremeFX software to handle this. Or just set headset as the default playback device. Windows will automatically switch for u if u set it correctly.

When I plug in, speakers mute.. Plug out speakers unmute..

Thing is.. I want it to remain plug in but also able to switch to speakers whenever I want to on the fly

Oh, that one u need a dedicated button on the DAC/soundcard to do so. U have no such option on the onboard audio solution.

sian man.. okay let me think bout moving on to a 5.1 / x7 setup.. more money dump ahead :s22:
