need help upgrading!

hi guys,

I'm currently considering an upgrade of my system as its old (4years+) already. Would need your advise on the upgrades as i'm a tech noob. Have a budget of 1k. I use it mainly for gaming and entertainment purposes. Games i play are mainly FPS like call of duty, battlefield etc.

My current rig is:
intel i7 860 + msi p55gd 65
kingston 2gb ddr3 x 2 pcs
powercolour 5850 1GB graphics card
wd 1tb black hard disk
seasonic 500w psu
coolermaster haf 932 case

i already have a 256ssd yet to fix up so please exclude the ssd. My casing is also a bit dirty and the fans are a bit rusty already. don't know if i should change the case too. Please recommend bros!

For 1k the mobo cpu is fine. But if you really wanna upgrade then i would suggest a new mobo and cpu plus a 8gb of ram. Add in a good gpu.

Yes. Dont let the brand fool you. Go do a quick research on their psu.

I'm using the same CPU as you and it still works fine. With a 1K budget I'd suggest the following:

1. Add more ram
2. Replace GFX card
3. Overclock + Change CPU Cooler.

Just the stock cpu cooler. If you don't know how to do it then better don't.

If you are not overclocking, stock CPU cooler is good enough.

your rig is still ok. just change your ram to 8 gb and upgrade your gpu to 280x or better.

psu still can keep unless you adding a lot of thing

then the rest of your money spend on other thing like lazer mouse, mech keyboard or monitor

if still have $ left, buy canned compress air or invest in a electrical blower to clean up your cpu/case fan and your other interior part.

you can also keep your casing and just change the case fan. if you want a new case get a corsair 540 air.

Ok..I think I will change my fans. My casing still pretty durable less the rust n dirt from the past.

Gpu 280x now is the bare minimal? How does the gtx rake up against it
