Hey guys, decided to travel to Bangkok from 14 April - 16 April.
Will be going there alone, am really lost since it would be my first time visiting Bangkok.
I went to Thailand before, but just not Bangkok :s13:

Anyway, i checked and asked around, people told me to buy tickets from SIN to BKK suvarnabhumi airport instead of the Don Mueang. Not sure what's the difference though. Checked both JetStar and Thai Airways. It seems that Jetstar would cost me 261, while thai airways cost me 255. The better choice would be thai airways right? I find that jetstar have too little leg space, though i ain't sure about thai airways.

Would like to have some recommendations for hotel too. Cousin told me to book one near the sukhumvit area. But i ain't sure what good hotels are there. Any good intros for me bros and sisters? Would like to book a room for 2 people. My friend went 2 days ahead of me, so he would be joining me when i reach there. :s13:

BKK suvarnabhumi is the newer airport and it's very easy to get from there to Sukhimvit. I don't know about Don Mueang.

If you can get Thai Airways at a price that is cheaper than a budget airline such as JetStar I would go for it! You're talking about a 4-star airline versus a budget airline.

As for hotels, just go to any number of hotel booking sites and start reading the reviews. Sukhimvit has a ton of hotels ranging from budget to five star luxury.

Have fun! :)

Don Mueang airport is really nice if you would like to experience how life is like in the 1960s.. Otherwise I would avoid it at all costs. Immigration counters are limited, taxi queues are facking long.. The only reason to be at DMK airport is if you wanna take a domestic flight to other provinces through Air Asia or Nok Air or Lion Air.

Thai Air vs Jetstar.. This kind of question still need to ask meh

Plenty of hotels along Sukhumvit area, depending on your budget. Lots of hotels near Nana and Asok BTS. If you can afford to splurge, then On8 or S15 or S31 or Novotel Phloen Chit.

Thanks for the replies guys :s13:
Silly me, comparing thai airways with jetstar. It's just that i am surprised that thai airways seems cheaper than jetstar. Like i am missing something.

Anyway, what are some good places to go? I heard around that time there would be songkran. But was told to stay away as there are lots of fights and really crowded. I don't wanna get wet either =:p

Thanks for the advice, i'll take a look for hotels around that area too..

Thought about my plans there. Would probably be visiting the markets and eating cheap food. Not sure if i'll have plans for night party.
A friend who lives in BKK says that she would bring me around, so i guess she got my 3 days of activities settled.

Anyone here have any sample itinerary to share? Would like to plan myself too, just in case shes busy for the day. :s13:

Yes its Songkran. So you can't help getting wet.

Standard Sinkie itinerary is as what dede has outlined. If you want something more historic, you should visit Wat Pra Kheow, which is the Emerald Buddha Temple, and Wat Arun.

If you want to visit night markets, Yaowarat is quite good for makan. Their Kway Chup is different from our singaporean type, more like our bah kut teh with their peppery soup base.

You should also try out Roasted Duck in Bangkok. It's usually roasted in Teochew style, which is different from what we usually get in Singapore, which is Cantonese style.

The Ah Hiah last time sell 2 prices, normal 30THB and special 50THB.

Then after all the Ah Tiong chiong to eat, Ah Hiah now only sell special, at 60THB.

The diff bwt special and normal is size only. Not extra ingredients.

Yaowarat is chinatown.

If you want to see hordes of Ah Tiong behaving badly, it's a good place to observe.
