Need help with Desktop Display issue

I believe my 10 year old Radeon HD 6950 GPUis failing as I could not get display signal occasionally.

How likely is it that is my motherboard Asus Trooper B85 PCI slot issue vs GPU dying out?

Currently using the on board graphic for display to monitor

if it is the latter, then what GPU do you recommend for a replacement? Can my motherboard support the newer/current GPU?

Other than the size of the GPU fitting into the case, the GPU ports should flash with the case at the back after inserting into the motherboard??

You can test in a different PCI slot I think.

If the iGPU is using a different display cable, you might want to test the GPU with that cable. Sometimes, it could be cable failure.

You can also try cleaning the GPU gold contacts.

Your MB can support the newer/current GPUs. The GPU I/O plates are all same size so will fit into your case (assuming you are not using a slim case).

CPU: i5-4460 3.2GHz 64 bit
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 6950
PSU: Seasonic SS-620GB Active PFC F3
RAM: 8GB

using the same cable for my iGPU.
I tried hooting up to my TV, seem to work better than on my monitor.

the following has been for a while:
I occasionally need to force shut down and start my desktop again to have display on my monitor.

card always inserted in. At first I tot is MB issue, I usually connect the audio to my headphone. I change it to a speaker and i can hear the OS booting up and shutting down (press power button).

So that rule out the MB. I even did test on HDD, SSD and even GPU( when it was still inserted) with Heaven Benchmark amd Crystal_diskinfo.

The 2 Black slot is PCIe slot? 2.0x16 4x and 1x mode.

Can I use them with my GPU? Not sure what the numbers mean

The incident that you need to forces shut down could be related to ram issue, if you have more than 1 memory slot I suggest you can try if move your current ram sitting to another maybe it help?

I force shut down cos there is no display. No display I cannot click on shut down on the screen

Ah just notice my power cable maybe have the suitable like the RX580 need a 8 pin connection? Saw it on youtube.

It is time to get a new one. let the old one rest....

However, if u get the new 1, ensure ur PSU is able to support the power coz newer AMD GPU draws more power....

Take note this card doesn't support UEFI so if you running Windows 10
it uses legacy boot.

While your CPU and motherboard are release in 2014 so the GPU is much data than the CPU + mobo.
Get a new graphic card example Geforce 1050 or so which
are below $200.
If you want budget graphic card than look for second hand
graphic card like Geforce 970 or so around $100+.

Originally built at a shop. over the years changed motherboard once.

oh my so need to change PSU or at least new cables for modern GPU.
