Hello all,

My 5yo computer was having problems recently with random restart/shutdown.

Earlier, i dismantled the whole computer and tested the PSU on its own, working fine. I went on to connect the PSU to the Mobo and turned on the power, case fan din work, mobo fan barely spinned then the mobo started smoking (not sure if i tested correctly). In any case, i think i need a new rig now.

Would it be recommended to reuse all the other items from the PC (PSU, Ram, cd drive, gfx card etc) or just replace everything? I'll need to reuse the hdd/ssd for sure. Hope to minimize cost if possible, mostly word processing but using to play dota once in a while.

PSU - superflow 550w
GFX - HD 7850 i think
Ram - 2x 4gb DDR3-1333?

If anybody wants the burnt mobo for any purpose also please lemme know.

Thanks in advance.

I would change the PSU as well. No point risking other components.

I assume your rig is Intel 1155. You can consider a second-hand MB. For your requirement, no need to upgrade the whole rig.
