Hi there, looking for a kind soul residing somewhere near Ang Mo Kio area to help me with application of Thermal Grease this weekend. Tried to apply but was unsuccessful the first time (a lot of bubbles resulted and temperatures on load using a aftermarkey cooler were significantly higher than stock cooler). Willing to pay a reasonable sum as token of appreciation for help rendered.

If anyone is able to help, please drop me a PM. Any help is kindly appreciated :)

You just need to apply a small drop (around size of a grain of rice) in the middle of the CPU. Thats all.

Just apply a pea size in the middle and then mount the cooler. The pressure and heat after you switch on the pc will spread it out for you.

Looking at the replies here, I probably applied too much of MX-4 last night. Looks like I better re-do it. Can I just wipe the grease using tissue?

if you are super afraid, just watch youtube vids on those who diy their comp, there'll be a section when the uploader will put the thermal paste on the cpu.

kitchen towel and 70% isopropyl alco would do the trick.

Thanks for the advice guys, I'll try again this weekend. My cooler is a Xigmatek Praeton Ld963.

Also, I need to get a new syringe of thermal paste as I threw away the excess that came packed with it. Any suggestions on which one I should get? I was thinking of Artic silver 5. Any experts care to recommend?

This is all you need: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JOP_uutnM4s#t=20

Artic silver is a oldie but goodie, though given a choice I'll go for more modern pastes like gelid or noctua's.

Artic Silver need to be careful tho, paste go wrong place can fry the chip.

Artic MX4 doesn't have conductive compounds so it is safer.

If you scared bubbles, use a piece of clean plastic card and spread the paste like spreading kaya on your Gardinia bread then mount the cooler. I do myself.

Thanks guys on the feedback! Looking at cyber minds price list, I'm thinkingn of getting the noctua nt-h1. Is that a good choice?

And for application wise, just to confirm:

1. dispense rice grain size on middle of processor chip
2. Put Heatsink on, turn left&right abit a few times to spread paste
3. Mount the heatsink

Is that about right? I looked at the instructions from the noctua website.

i just did a cleaning of my cpu fan and heatsink and reapply thermal paste...in this case the mx-4, however i did temperature check after and doesnt seem to have much difference

previously was idle at 50 degree but now is around 47 degree, is this normal or did i do something wrong?

note that this is like the first time i clean my cpu fan, heatsink and apply thermal paste in 2 years lol

mx4 is good paste. the good thing with it is. it don't even dry up like intel stock pre-applied thermal paste

for air cooler 30-40 is about the best you can get;)
