Need help with with diagnosing problem with PC (GPU related)

Hi guys, I just bought a 2nd hand Palit 670 Jetstream to replace my old 570 and somehow, problems started arising. I can't be sure if the 670 Jetstream is the cause though, please help me out here. Sorry for the WOT.

Upon installing the 670 Jetstream, I noticed frequent mini "hangs" when opening programs that require the GPU to ramp up, as in the mouse cursor will stop in its track for a second before continuing. When I tried checking the card using GPUZ, the PCIE lane reads "PCIE 2.0 x16 @ x4 2.0". I reseat the card and it got worse, becoming "PCIE 2.0 x16 @ x1 2.0" during the render test. 2D low profile performance was terrible, the whole rig hangs during the render test and obvious lag when leftclick+drag in the desktop.

After several reseating, the situation got worse, to the point where POST didn't show up even though the mobo LEDs are on and the fans are spinning. When I managed to get back into Windows after several restarts, I reformatted my HDD. In the fresh Windows which booted normally, I installed the Nvidia driver and restarted but the comp will just hang at the "Starting Windows" screen. However, safe mode is able to to be booted and uninstalling the Nvidia driver there allows me to boot back into Windows again.

Guys, so which component do you think is the likely source of the problem?

1) 670 GPU
Most likely culprit. Rig was running fine prior to installation. However when I tried it on my dad's mobo, it shows up correct in GPUZ as PCIE 3.0 x16 @ PCIE 3.0 x16.

2) Mobo
Equally likely suspect. I don't know if I've damaged the board or the PCIE slot 1 from the frequent reseating of the card.

3) PSU
PSU is a Seasonic Bronze 620W. Technically it should provide more than enough juice to power the GPU. I wonder if it is damaged, causing the frequent mini-"hanging" of the mouse cursor when GPU is ramping up due to insufficient power draw to the CPU/Mobo? However, not likely cause it was powering my rig fine when using the 570.

4) CPU/Ram
CPU is a i5 760 OC to 4.0 GHz, Ram is 2 sticks of DDR3 2gb each. I don't really think there is anything wrong with them since Im able to boot up POST and safe mode.

Fortunately, most of the stuff are still under warranty so I could probably RMA them. But in your opinion, which is most likely the culprit? And is there any way to be sure? Thanks in advance for your help!

if u use the old gpu does the problem show up ?

did u try to update the drivers to the new updated version for the 2nd hand gpu ?

try to do a memtest n see if ur rams are ok (jus to make sure)

If everything was fine before you changed GPU. Try checking your installation, isit tightly slot in?

Do a clean drivers installations.

And yeah do a memtest incase.

Try the new 670 on another rig.

If cannot, maybe drivers registry got problem, restore windows

first thing first, plug ur old gfx into ur pci slot and try

Do controlled testing with only 1 variable.

replace your new gpu with old gpu boot up see ok anot, if problem persist remove old gpu plug new gpu, den remove ram, rinse repeat for the rest of the items.

In case of mobo / psu, if you have a old rig you can plug your old rig with all your ram gpu hdd etc. if problem no occur in old rig with new parts den is mobo/psu else must be one of those part.

i kena before the mini hangs, even on desktop. Like stuck for a few secs then continue normally. Play games sometimes will crash into desktop.

Turns out was my CPU OC, toned down and it was ok. Recalibrated voltage settings and ok.

But the way u describe ur gpuz strange tho. No harm trying but put ur cpu to stock first, easily oc-able back. Then from there test ur gpu/ram.

I am back with a few updates. Last night I've tried switching in my old gtx570 back into PCIE slot 1. Even though Im able to load in to windows, the graphics performance on desktop seems shiatty. Dragging icons and windows around on the desktop will result in a trail of afterimages. There were also some rapid screen flashing after the POST screen, which I've never noticed before. So Im kinda positive there is something wrong with my mobo, either with the PCIE slot, ram, cpu or psu.


Things to try next:
- I will try the gtx670 on my bro's computer again tonight to clear it of any suspicion.
- Do a Mem Test
- Anyone know how to check for PSU, CPU or PCIE slot damage?
