Need Help

Built myself a PC last November. Have been experiencing some occasional problems where the screen would just freeze and have to force restart the computer. Happens in game and on YT mostly so far. Any advice?

Also, do I need the boxes to RMA cause I already got rid of them. Thanks

It'll be a long and slightly ardrous process of isolating the problem.

Notice how no one has replied, not because they don't want to, but because no one here will know what the issue is and with which part. You could replace each and every part and do whatever it is that triggers the freeze and slowly work your way to the problem. I'd suggest starting with the graphics card. Since it's by Asus, you can try to bring it in directly, ask them. I heard their service not bad.

As for warranty, they need the receipt more than the box, but if you're bringing around anything that has an exposed electronic board of any type, please transport it with an electrostatic bag.

Download and run memtest86 to check your ram. If fail, isolate by testing 1 piece at a time. If your ram is from a kit, RMA both even if 1 fail only.

You might want to consider checking your CPU temps and also your harddisk health. Harddisk health, you can use HD tune to check and for CPU temps, you can use Core Temps.

I doubt it's a CPU temp problem since I haven't overclocked it yet. Also unlikely to be hdid as I've done some checks with it and it turned out ok.

What happens is that when I'm playing games sometimes, the screen just freezes and the sound goes nuts. When I force restart, I notice that the dram led was red for quite awhile before it turned off.

I'm not sure if it's a RAM or GPU problem and I will see if I can narrow it down

You do not need to be overclock for it to be overheated.. Still, there is no harm in checking it. If you mention that the RAM LED is litted for quite sometime when posting, possibly it could be a RAM issue. Might want to do RAM test via memtest.

You also can try using your on-board graphics provided your motherboard supports to see if your GPU having issue.
