Hey all,

Have not been keeping up with hardware and would like recommendations for a solid, reliable motherboard that can last 4-5 years. I am thinking of upgrading to a 4770 or a 4770K (not sure whether to OC or not, but highly unlikely).

I have looked at the stickied thread (Buyer's Guide II) and the recommended boards are:
  • ASUS Z87 Deluxe
  • ASUS SABERTOOTH

I understand that ASUS' Sabertooth series are marketed for their (supposedly) higher grade components that would (supposedly) last longer. Not sure how true this is in real world tests.

My priorities are:
1. Reliability and able to last long. I don't plan to upgrade till 4+ years time
2. High number of USB 3.0 ports
3. I don't plan to SLI so I guess one PCI 3.0 x16 lane is sufficient

Is the Sabertooth my best option? Are there more viable boards I can look at?

Thank you! :)

I will be reusing all of my other components. Also, if you would like to buy my current proc and mb for a reasonably low fee you can contact me via pm only.

my bet would be the sabertooth,

5years warranty, in case it breaks down aniway, best bang for bucks if ur looking at long go,

and no cheap mobo, personally if i want my products to last, i usually pay for those higher price, even if it fails me, warranty is there to save me,

high usb 3.0 port not important now, as mostly items now running on it is either HDD/Flash drive, unless u decided to get a Samsung note 3 which does run on that =D

There is no mobo out there that buy now can last 4-5years. If so you are pretty much lucky already.

Asus premium board is more for OC. If not OC there are many boards out there that are reliable. I would not use the word can last long. Cause most boards will try to give you some minor hitching problem.

Here are some of the non OC board B85 that are recommended.

MSI B85m G43 (matx baord)
Asus B85 Plus (ATX board)
Gigabyte GA B85M D3H (matx board)
Asrock B85m PRO 4 (matx board)

For OC board Asus is darn expensive.

Well if you don't mind price then

Asus Sabertooth Z87
Asus Gryphon Z87
Asus Maximus VI Formula/Extreme

MSI Z87 G45 gaming
MSI Z87 GD65 Gaming
MSI MPower

Gigabyte GA Z87X UD3H or UD5H (imo UD5H is extremely tough design)

Asrock Z87 Extreme 4
Asrock Z87 Extreme 6
Asrock Z87 Professional
