need pointers on cross fire???

Just wondering if i want to cross fire my gpu
wad i need to take note of?
which is the best choices of gpu to cross fire wif

make sure your power supply has enough wattage
make sure your motherboard supports 16x/16x or 8x/8x configuration.

any 7950 is fine and you need a crossfire bridge (which is normally with the gpu box itself)

It used to be that if, say, you mixed a HD5870 with a HD5850, then the HD5870 drops to a HD5850 in performance so that effectively, you'd have 2x HD5850 in CF. Now, I can't say for sure, but it's been said that mixing a HD7970 + HD7950 would yield a performance between 2x HD7970 and 2x HD7950. In other words, it'd be better than two HD7950 in CF, but not up to two HD7970 in CF.....at least, that's what I'd heard.

Once you found the driver which works for you, don't change it.
Even if you update it and go back to the previous driver which works that time, it will still fail you.
Don't fix anything which didn't break.

Question, once I've 2 cards (same model) installed to run crossfire, it is possible to configure the such that only the primary card is running while the secondary one is off by default (meaning no power is consume)? When I start up 3D intensive games, the secondary will on automatically and run in crossfire mode to improve performance.

Take note that crossfire allow a pair of card slotted into the 16x and 4x electrical pci e slots. Sli requires atleast 8x. That is why most dual 16x pci slot mobo allow crossfire but not sli.

However connecting to the 4x slot does drag down their overall performance.

Regarding power consumption, the 7 series cards support zerocore power technology when idling. The secondary card will even be shut off. This statement is taken off amd's page.
