Hi guys, i need some recommendations for some waterproof action cam which can be charged in the rain.

I am riding motorcycle and working as a dispatcher, working for about 10hr. I am planning to get a motorcycle camera video taping front & back and action camera mounted on my helmet video taping the direction i am looking.

The reason i am looking for action camera is that it doesnt has to be connected to motorcycle battery, it can be charged with portable charger.

Thank you guys for reading!

Gopro has one of the better image quality so I personally use it for POV camera angles, but the battery life is not exactly stellar. A Hero 5 fully charged drains out in 2 hours recording in 1080/60p. Then again, 3rd party batteries are in abundance (you'll need quite a few).

Another camera you can consider is Xiaomi's Yi (or the newer Yi 4k). Slightly better battery life than the GoPros at around 2 hour 30, and comes in at a more affordable price point. Also can charge from USB while recording. I have heard good things about it, but I've never used it myself.

Do remember that if you do charge while recording the camera will not be waterproof. I don't think there's any camera that can charge while recording and still be waterproof (unless you get a hero 5 and duct tape the usb connection :s13:)

I recall looking at a SJCAM SJ4000 with a waterproof case that allows external power supply connection.

On battery life, I would think a high efficient 20,000mAh powerbank would be able to supply to both cameras continuously for a tad more than 10 hours.

A point for consideration is for high capacity powerbank, FULL recharge will take time many hours. A likely alternative is partial charging thru the motorcycle.

Yes, this one:

My main concern is how long the cam will last in the waterproof case due to the heat generated during long hours of operation.

Powerbank wise, a 10,000mAh Xiaomi will last more than 10 hours for SJCAM SJ4000. Tested during one of my cycling trips. Edit: Sorry missed out that you mentioned it's for 2 cams. Yes than one will need a 20,000mAh powerbank.

nope, u cannot charge when using the waterproof housing.

With the waterproof housing , during video recording any problem recording the audio at the same time since the action cam is fully sealed inside the waterproof housing.

audio is useless when you record in waterproof casing. Can hardly hear.

Eh... no rain no need to use waterproof case mah.
If rain, heat won't be an issue.

I using SJCAM SJ4000 too.

Sorry for replying to such an old thread. Action cam is currently my interest so I am digging this out. :p

Now I am using the SJ4000 with the battery removed (using the taobao casing). There is much less heat generated. I have used the cam for continuous recording of more than 11 hrs.

I have just bought a LG Action Cam which eliminate the audio-too-soft issue. It is rainproof so it doesn't need a waterproof casing. Recorded audio is much clearer.
The cam can be charged while recording. If it rains, just need to unplug the cable and close the casing backdoor. The inbuilt battery can last 2-3 hrs so by then the rain should be gone.
