get an NVidia GTX 1080 as it has SMP and is a beast due to brute force.

DirectX12 performance has improved due to high clock speeds and pre-emption, but still not true hardware async compute. Makes up with pure brute force though.

Buy direct from Amazon.

Get the EVGA version.

Warranty is no issue as you can ship back to Taiwan if anything happens and they will ship back to you FOC.

If you like fancy designs, get Gigabyte and MSI version.

SSD just get Sandisk X400 or Crucial M200 from Amazon will do. All SSDs have difference load times of roughly 1-3 seconds.

NEVER get traditional hard disk anymore. It's DEAD. Get either a Seagate 1TB or 2TB hybrid SSHD. These comes with 8GB MLC SSD onboard and reduce your game loading times by 3X compared to traditional hard disk. And these are dirt cheap too. Don't get seagatte 4TB SSHD though, it spins at 5,400 rpm instead of 7,200 rpm in the 1TB and 2TB version.

PSU just get a Cooler Master 1200 watt gold and you are good to go.
Been using a Cooler Master for 6++ years with zero problems and still going strong.

RAM wise get DDR4 2400-2666 as this is the sweet spot for gaming.

For vanity sake, you can get DDR4 3000+ speeds but that's not important.

For the SSD, you can consider the Zotac Premium. 480GB for $179 on Lazada before CC discount.

@OP, IMHO:

Add $5 get the 2666Mhz ver.

Get the FD R5 off Lazada, Convergent sells it for $141 with free 3rd fan, and ships free due to Lazada July free shipping promotion. Use a CC code for more discount. http://www.lazada.sg/fractal-design...e-silent-series-r3140mm-white-fan-215200.html The R5 is a surprisingly LARGE case though.

Same for the SF Leadex 650W Gold which is available on Lazada, use a CC code. http://www.lazada.sg/superflower-leadex-gold-90-full-modular-650w-102194.html

SSD can also try Lazada, but need to compare prices properly. Recently bought an Evo 850 500GB from Lazada (Bizgram) and the item was discounted before discount code, so I quickly jumped on it.

If I am not overclocking, the H170 board on supports 2133Mhz Ram. If i have a 2400 Mhz ram, would it still works?

So, for Z170 board, if I buy 2400 ram, but not overclocking the cpu, can the board run the ram at the overclocked speed of 2400?

yes it can. 10 char. but if the board happen to down clocked to 2133Mhz, u can get it back to 2400Mhz.

Will the SF leadex 650w able to support 2x 1080 in SLI mode in the future?

If no, what is the recommended PSU? assuming the other components are the the same.

calculated 611w with SLI. Abit too close.

I think getting 850w is better, as the psu will be more efficient in the 50% utilization range..

I shortlisted the following tier1 psu with about same class:

CM V850 Gold (7 years) $230
Corsair RMi 850 Gold (10 years) $235
FSP Hydro G 850w (5 years) $209
Seasonic X 850 $259 (7 years) $259

Which one will be better? If all about the same, in term of warranty seems like Corsair is good?

den get corsair. as for seasonic, i scared due to recently a few user having issues with that psu, who have used it for a few months or years.

Ok. more or less settle.
Going to get this:

Asus Z170- PRO Gaming + i7-6700k @$786
Palit 1080 super jetstream @$999
G.Skill RipJaws-V 2400MHz 2x16G @$229
Zotac MLC 480G SSD @$189
Corsair RMi 850w @$235
CM Hyper 212x @$69
Fractal Design R5 Black Window @$169

Total $2676. (will squeeze for more discount :D)

getting palit instead of zotac due to higher base speed and cheaper price, no issue with the 2.5slot size.

Paired with HTC vive, good to go :s12:

DIY Gaming CPU

Hi,

Not wanting to start a new thread, but can anyone help me on a DIY Gaming CPU?

I do not know where to begin, but I ll try to list down some preferences;

Budget ~ +/- $2000

CPU:
Mobo:
RAM:
SSD:
GPU: GTX 1070, (was told if I do not use monitor bigger than 24", GTX 1080 is actually not necessary) I will be getting a 24" monitor, at this point it is Asus VG248. Also, read that to avoid ref cards, or FE models?
PSU:
Casing: No fascinating casing required, I don't need all those fancy LEDs.... water cool, monster case etc stuff...

Monitor: I read that the Asus VG248 is very good, even thou it has been released some years back already but still good. If aint wrong, SLS currently out of stock? Will check again when I go buy the CPU.
I'll need to use my existing 18.5" VGA port only monitor for 2nd monitor thingy for streaming option. I mainly play FPS games,CSGO,Overwatch, VS fighting games..

I can only think of this much pref atm... Thank you.
