Need recommendation from gamers/graphic program users/well-knowledged computer user

Hey guys

I need some help buying a laptop. I've got a few brands and even fewer models in mind and I just need unbiased opinions from those who game a lot/heavy photoshop users/simply know all around about computers.

So I've got a budget of above $1000 up to preferably lower than $2000. I don't think I want a 17" inch laptop since it'll probably be heavy. I have a desktop monitor and that's 17" so I'm using that as an example. My previous laptop was a 13.4" screen, so anything slightly bigger to 15", sounds good to me.

Brands that, I'm not interested in would be (right off the top of my head) : HP, Acer, Samsung, Sony, Apple, Lenovo

Some of these brands, either don't seem to cater to heavy graphics usage, at least not to me, or I just plain don't feel comfortable.

You've pretty much strike out most options.

Anyway, give Aftershock laptops a consideration. Local brand, building their highly customizable laptops. Check out their thread on the gaming/ multimedia laptop forum.

About Aftershock, ill take a look at that thread but I don't know how reliable there. They provide one year warranty and Asus does two years, so Asus sounds better.

Which laptop model should I be looking at from Aftershock? I've checked out their website, seems like I've got 4 options with my screen chose and price.

Aftershock base warranty if i recall correct is 1yr parts 3yr service.

warranty duration isnt an indication of customer service quality. Ive serviced my aftershock x15 and asus g73 before, there is a difference in the service experience you dont really see explicitly stated in ads, such as how aftershock customer service has longer opening hours and generally less human traffic. If youre talking Asus prepare to go trivex building before 8pm at Tai Seng, take a queue number and wait.

oh yeah since you seem to mind heavy laptops its hard to recommend asus g-series since even their 15" is almost half a kilo more than aftershock's 15"

You can customize your warranty duration between 1 to 3 years for part replacements. Their customer service is more personalized, unlike most manufacturers. To be honest, long warranty does not translate to better quality from experience.

That's true. However, parts are expensive to replace so longer warranty on that sounds like a relief compared to service warranty, which usually isn't as bad as the cost of parts.

What time does aftershock close? I live close to tai seng and serangoon is further. Less human traffic, I see pros and cons there.

I'm thinking of sucking it up and going for a 17" g series if I have to. Then again there is Asus n series that has a 15.6" inch.

When I compared the some of the specs with aftershock, ignoring the screen size, aftershock 15 still seemed expensive.

That's true indeed but covering the cost of parts feels a whole lot better!

Your response was very much appreciated as I felt like its do or die with Aftershock lol. It's either I bought aftershock or nothing at all, that's why I'm looking for unbiased opinions.

I checked Lenovo workstation you've mentioned. However, I will never buy a HP laptop lol I'm a little traumatised from my HP laptop, which is what I'm trying to replace now.

I'll be using photoshop, illustrator, paint tool Sai, GIMP, Dreamweaver and Indesign maybe. Not CAD though.
