I am currently using i5-3470 with B75M-D3V motherboard, 8GB DDR3 ram and with GTX 1070, monitor resolution is 2560 x 1440 @ 140hz. I also have a 500GB SSD and 1TB Harddrive. Is it a good time to upgrade now?

Which components can I buy, which will give me the best value/performance increase and can last for next 3 years? Preferably 2nd hand to save cost and generate the less heat... I use the computer mainly for gaming. Thanks in advance!

I would suggest a new Ryzen rig instead.

If you wish to upgrade components, then i7-3770/K or i7-2700/K for $100 to $130.

16GB of RAM is preferred but as your MB only has 2 slots, that would mean buying 2X8GB DDR3 for another $100 to $130. However, if you are going to change CPU+RAM then might as well change the MB as well and go for Ryzen.

Thanks and how about sound? Currently using creative XtremeMusic which is really good but is starting to give problems due to age.

Personally, I find the MB sound good enough (depends on the audio chip in your MB). An external DAC is the preferred route if you want something better.

any other recommendations? Is ryzen currently more value added than intel? Is 1070gtx still powerful these days? Thanks.

Guess the 1070 is still powerful to play most title at high settings without issues.

Yes. There is expectation that it will be perform better for the money. Also AMD motherboards are more future compatible than intel.
