Hi everyone

I got a $1000 travel voucher from Chan brothers.

As I am working and studying, I am finding time to travel and is it better if I go free and easy than tour package to have more flexibility in the dates?

And where should I go? Any recommendations? Solo trip most probably.

All recommendations and ideas and opinions welcome to share here!!

Thanks!

Free & easy would be better, I feel, as you can control your expenses when you are there while going for the places you wanna go/see.

$1000 isn't that much if you factor in the fact that you need to buy airtix/hotel from them. Either HK or Taipei? For HK its the hotel that's ex, airtix is slightly cheaper. For TW its airtix that's ex, but cheaper hotels. Taipei food is slightly cheaper (I feel), and there are more things to see/experience without needing to pay for admission tix (just pay for public transport and you can go to Shifen, Jiufen etc). For HK if you wanna go to the tourist attractions (Disneyland, ocean park, peak tram etc), there's some hefty admission tickets to pay for.

I was also thinking of free and easy because I need to have the flexibility of the dates due to my tight schedule of work and studies so if I travel free and easy I should be able to set my own dates...

Understand that $1000 isn't that much but I am able to top up more to actually go somewhere further? like HK, China, Europe etc.

I have never travel via free and easy before so need advice on this.

Depends on your budget liao. If you have the money for Europe then why not? You can always go online to search Google or TripAdvisor for decent accommodation locations in the country you wanna go.

Then just have a generally rough idea of what you wanna do there. Is it for culinary experience? Then Google for what food is good there, are there any restaurants which are "must go" places for foodies, etc. Or do you want it to be a cultural experience? Then check out what museums are there that's interesting, etc.

Look on Google maps to see if where are the places / areas you wanna go. Decide if they are feasible to go from your hotel or not, etc.

Then of course, you'll need to research on their public transport system. How to travel from one place to another without using cabs, etc.

All these are somewhat common sense.. You just need to start researching from somewhere and everything will start to link up. Once you decide on a country (or a few countries), you can also go to the specific subforums here and ask for some recommendations (like which area to stay would be better for the list of places you wanna go, whether is your itinerary doable/possible or not, etc). Just don't be too general or too vague with your questions, so that you can get more detailed info / suggestions from the forum members here.
